Please some one help me with this noise i dont know what it could be please help

i just baught a 91 gst with a blown engine i switched the engine put a new tranny new clutch, 16g drove it around for about 2 days then a grinding noise started seem to come from the timing belt area and i had lost power. yesturday i was looking at it with the car running then all of a sudden the noise became extremely loud i cant pinpoint where it is coming from? i have good compression in all my cyl there all firing i have not a clue what this is i am hoping its not a rod knocking. please reply thanks
 
Its probably something stuck in the bottom of the timing belt cover. It also could be your crank pulley rubbing against the timing cover. I know that I have read a few threads where the crank pulley was contacting the timing cover and it would make a loud noise.
 
yes i replaced the water pump the timing belt and the balencing shaft. i had some people look at my car and they think its a rod knocking but there not sure. it started off as a grinding noise from either under the valve cover or the timing belt section and my mechanic said it was something stupid but he hasnt heard the new noise it turned into any way i am not driving it and if it is rods there is going to be a lot of parts for sale (16g, hks ssq bov gauges 10mm wires 550 injectors valve cover etc.) thanks for repling i just hope its something stupid.

Well I started to suggest that you should check the dampner for the noise, and I got ahead of my self and didnt realize that Defiant had already posted that. So I edited and just put that up there because it wouldn't let me delete the post.

Ya, it's probably your tensioner.....either that or it's your rocker arm that your tensior sits on. To get that terrible sound out of the engine, i had to replace both. When u rev the engine to 3k does the sound go away. If it does, then it's for sure your tensioner arm and tensioner.
 
i dont think it goes away but i havent really drove it since the noise started i took it around my block but i am afraid to rev it up high because my dad thinks its a rod and i dont wanna completely bust my engine cuz i am not sure if it is or isnt the rods so i am just taking it easy and letting it sit. i am waiting for the mechanic to call me but i am just praying right now that its not the rods.
 
my friends a mechanic and he said its the bottom end and i spun a bearing ( how can i do that ) so i am gonna rip off the oil pan when i get home about 2 then maybe i will see some bearings then i will have to replace those and if my crank is busted up i will have to get it machined then main bearing also but i hope i dont have any rod or piston damage i will post the results around 8 tonight maybe i will see a bearing i am hoping not tho :thumbdown
 
What would be wrong if it was a rod?? b.c im buyin a talon tsi awd for 2300 and the guy thinks its a rod but isnt sure.. and he said the oil pan is bent and thinks the noise is coming from there.. Is the Car worth 2300? and do you think its a spun bearing or rods or what?

depending on the shape of the car it could be worth what there asking. and if the pan looks like something hit it from the inside then it's more than likely a broke rod.

and matman1586 what did you find on your motor?
 
Well im new with these motors and im not sure if i should buy it or not for 2300 should i offer less or what?? I mean idk what a broke rod could do to these motors or if its even a rod it might be a spun bearing or maybe a knocking lifter.. some one tell me what the best thing to do about it? b.c i really want this car
