Ok... my check engine light came on a few weeks ago, and I couldn't figure out why... the only thing I noticed is that my idle is just a tab bit rough now. However, during the past few weeks my gas milage has plumited from the normal 350-400 miles per tank to about 225-275 miles per tank. Are the O2 senors to blame? How do I know which one to replace... or is it better to just do them both at the same time.

Thanks,
Drew

WOW OMG you get around 350-400 miles per tank!! I'm lucky to break 200-225! Anyways, if you have a non-turbo, you can turn the key on and off 4 times and the check engine light will blink out the code, but if you have a turbo model, then you need to find either someone with a datalogger that can read it, or go to a trusted mechanic. Most places will have a code reader that will pull the code, shop around for the cheapest price for an hour of labor as they will charge you the full hour of labor for it. Only did that once, it cost me about $60, then I got a datalogger :D

Yeah... my turbo usually gives me about 375/tank... although one time I did manage to put 440 in one tank... that was on a long roadtrip.

Thanks for the tip... since I have the turbo, I guess I need to go somewhere to get the code read. Is there somewhere I can go that will tell me what all the error codes mean? Also, I know that my Mitsubishi dealer charges $35 to diagnose a problem... would that be the best thing to do, and then I can always do the work myself.

Thanks again,
Drew

Go to autozone they will pull your diag codes for free. I don't know where a website is that tells what the codes are, but I have a printout of what the codes mean so if you get it scanned tell me the code and Ill find what it means. I'd be very willing to bet that its an O2 sensor malfunction, because your idle got rough (running too rich) and you get bad gas mileage (also from running too rich). So go to autozone get the codes scanned (its free) and then go from there, but it probably is the O2 sensor.

You can pull the codes by using an analog voltmeter and hooking it up to the diagnostic connector I think it is pin 1 and 10 and watch the needle for short sweeps and long ones go pick up a Haynes manual it tells you exactly how to do it.
