hey,

my power steering is leaking all over the damn place, it seems to be coming from by the ps pump, but not able to isolate it to a specific spot. I know its leaking on the driver's side of the car, by where the oil spots are on the floor, and also the amount of fluid all over everything. Even gets onto the belt right there, throwing the fluid everywhere under the hood. I've searched for this problem and everyone else seems to have problems with the rack....which mine seems to be with the pump.

Think just putting new hoses on it should fix it? or is there a common problem with the 95 model year that I don't know about for this problem?

any help would be appreciated...especially an up-close pic of what I should replace or test

Thanks!

Ive always had a problem with my power steering fluid leaking onto my alternator and prematurely wearing it out,..Fixed and going good till today,..

Check on the pump itself (run your fingers on it) to feel where the "wetspots" are and try to figure out where the leak is originating from,...

Possible causes (if the leaks are originating from pump) are:
1. O-rings
2. Cracked or fractured Joint.
3. Bad pump (Seals in Pump itself)

In my case, Ive found the joint itself (where banjo bolt/hose from resevoir) was cracked or fractured and leaking ps fluid ontop my alternator,..

You can unbolt the joint (get a catch can as ps fluid will leak all over the place) and check the condition of joint and o-rings,..

If thats not it, it could be the pump itself as it has seals inside as well,..This mind you if the leak is originating from the "top side" and not from the rack or the coolant lines (metal pipe in front of condensor/radiator) or from the hoses to and from resevoir as they can crack or leak underneath the rubber shroud over it.

well I just went out there with a flashlight to check everything again, and its definetly not the hoses from the resevour to the pump, its definetly coming from the botton side of the pump....but of course I can't see where, I would probably ahve to pull it out to see for sure eh?

its also, like you said, leaking all over the alternator, and getting on the ps belt, thus tossing it all over the hood and the headlight and the cam cover...its everywhere

There's a full Seal Kit for the P/S pump available from Mitsu - Including the little itty-bitty ass O ring on the ECU "idle sensor" Connector Pin. BTW your Alternator will die any day now - & if the Voltage Regulator fails to open you'll cook your ECU Caps also. BEEN THERE - COOKED THAT.

AWESOM-O!!!! new alternator is always great...so this seal kit is for ALL seal inside and outside the ps pump? estimated cost?

just talked to mitsubishi and they said they don't have the p/s pump seal replacement kit for the gsx.....dude said they don't make it for that model....what a bunch of crap

it sounds like the front seal on the power steering pump is leaking. thats why your pulley is slinging fluid all over the underside of your hood. If you do get a re-seal kit, make sure that the bushing that holds the pump shaft in place is in good condition. If it is worn, replacing the seals is only a short term fix. I am not sure if the seal kit from the dealer has this bushing in it.

think I'll just see if I can get a used p/s pump from here or a junkyard or something

The used Pump will leak too - The Seals are just O Rings - except for the big one where the Pump Housings mate together which probably isn't leaking anyway. The old O-Rings will be baked & hard from the heat.

so youre saying its a seal between the pump and something else? so a used pump would do the same?
