Ok so yesterday i was letting the car warm up and i noticed a weird grinding noise at idle. At first i thought it might have been an old flex pipe gone bad but when i layed under the car it sounded like it was coming from the tranny. THe car shifts fine and everything with no problems. BUt the grinding noise i heard was at idle. now it would go away and come back.....any input?

Second when i waslooking under the car i noticed that there was some fluid leaking from what looked like to be the transfer case. If im correct the transfer case is what the driveshaft is connected to right? Well i moved the car to see what kind of fluid it was and the fluid was greenish im not sure what transfer case fluid looks like but could it be fluid from there or can it be coolant? Could there be somewere that im leaking fluid from? THanks

Are you sure its not a "rattling" noise like something is loose in there? sometimes the throwout bearing can make this noise when its going bad. Also, does the noise go away when you push the clutch in? That would also be a symptom of a failing TOB. What does the green fluid smell like? If it smells like cat piss(horrible), then it is probably transmission fluid. The green-ness makes me think it is probably more likely antifreeze.

Sorta rattling yes, and the noise does go away when i push the clutch in. I put in a new clutch would it still make that noise?
As for the smell, i didnt smell it though, and i figured that it could have been antifreeze because its greenish and i tranny fluid is supposed to be a dark color right? but where the hell would the antifreeze be coming from that it could be spilling on the transfer case

Well I'm not sure about replacing the clutch as it may not even be the TOB. You should generally replace the TOB though when installing a new clutch. As far as antifreeze being on the x-fer case, who knows. It could be running down the block and onto the x-fer case. It could be leaking from the radiator and just collecting on the x-fer case, it could be coming from the overflow and collecting on the x-fer case. And as far as the color of tranny fluid, it is usually brownish in color, but can very from brand to brand. It all smells horrible though. LOL!
