Well I have a clickity scrapy noise coming from the t.b. side of my engine. I pulled all of my accesory belts off and the noise disappeared... the noise only reappeard when I reinstalled waterpump and alternator belt... but I have replaced alternator with a different one... so if you have ever had a waterpump crap out on ya did it make a scrapin sort of sound??

did you check the 2 piece pulley to make sure it wasn't rubbing on anything? i've never heard a waterpump make noise when it's gone bad. not saying it can't happen. but just haven't had it happen to me. if nothing else, try pulling one belt at a time and see if that helps to track it down.

if its your water pump it will be making a weird grinding noise. mine did it for a while before eventually locking the bearing up..youll kno when that happens because all your accessory belts will snap. try spinning the bearingon teh pump and see if there is any "in and out" movement on it. if there is, theres a good chance that your pump is taking a shat.

Alright will do, it did seem to have a little play in it, kinda pisses me off... I bought a local auto parts store waterpump for it when I installed new engine. O well, I guess I learned my lesson the hard way of, you get what you pay for.

NEVER buy internal engine parts (like water pumps, timing belts, etc) at auto stores. You will ALWAYS be sorry and wished you had paid the higher priced dealer part every time. Plugs, alt, starter, outside belts, battery, etc are ok.

My Water pump crapted out like that just 2 days ago.
While your changing it look @ your timing belts see if thay need changed! You got to take one off anyway!

my wifes probes water pump went out when we had it and it made a bad grinding noise eventaully she jumpled all belts and the bearing locked up thier were metals shavings around the water pump as well.

Its the pump. When the bearings go (bushings or whatever depending on the pump) the impeller is allowed to rotate and hit the housing. This is the grinding sound that you usually hear.

The give away is the play. There should be ZERO play in the shaft....a bad water pump (not a slipped impeller but bad bearings/seals) will wobble like that.
