Just seeing if it would be cheaper/better in the long run to go ahead a swap in a 6bolt, I'd hate to make an engine that looks like this, put alot of money in it to make it run and then walk....

plus I dont know what the crank and rods look like yet.... Might not even be worth my time to even bother cleaning it to begin with.

Why did motor blow ?
are valves bent ?
how are pistons and walls ?

ok this is the way i would look at it how much you wanna $$$$
depending on why motor blew i would either basic rebuild .
dissasemble , clean replace rings for sure, check everthing and only replace whats needed.
the head i wouldnt rebuild cuase you can pickup a 1g for like 150-200 complete in good condition and is also an upgrade for your 2g.
just do 1g head swap. get new oem pistons wrings etc. hone the cylinders yourself easy as pie. get crankshaft cut regrinded and new main and rod bearings about 200-300. water pump, etc. with the 1g you need alot more than rebuilding a 7 bolt. also if you can rebuild your own why buy a used 6 bolt block (if you dont know anything about it) when your well be better becuase its fresh rebuild/refreshening.(not full rebuild) and less than eveything you need for 1g swap .
i dont know all i know is if i purchased a used 1g even with good compression , i would take it down and race build it if not atleast basic rebuild. Depends $$$$$$$$ and what HP you goal is .

check crank and rods. just to be safe take it to machine shop have it grinded and new bearings.

Looks like it was just a blown head gasket. Don't see any valve damage or piston damage. Probably cheaper to rebuild what you have.

Figure out what it would cost to swap in a "used" 6 bolt, compare that to the cost of a rebuild. See what works best for you.

found a 6 bolt for $300... then get the MachV rebuild kit for $500.
actually the head gasket was still in one piece, no cuts/tears.. When taking the head off 1/2 the bolts came loose WAY too easy. like they werent torqued down properly... the engine has been sitting for a long while.

Yeah looks like it was just a blown head gasket man. And then the car obviously sat for awhile by the rust on the valves and pistons. I would tear down and rebuild what you have. If you are really up to the task tho....6bolt 2g would be badass.... It just kinda depends on what you are going to do with the car. 7-bolt daily driver. 6-bolt if you want to mod it and race it.
