brakes attackes by woodpecker

hey,
on the stock back brakes on my 95 Tsi AWD, on the drivers side when i'm driving it sounds like there is a damn woodpecker killing my rotor!! when i hit the brakes it goes away. i have discs on the dack. i looked at it and the caliper seems to be kinda loose. so i pulled my wheel off, and checked and something seems to be missing, a spring or something. my pads are good and the brakes work good. the caliper just doesnt keep "the squeeze" on things when the brakes are not applied.
so when i'm not on the brakes, my rear drivers side caliper is loose. everything is tight. is there suposed to be a spring or something in there to keep everything tight or something?? thanks guys.

The whole caliper is loose? Check on the back side to make sure that of both bolts holding the caliper to the caliper bracket are in place, and also the bolts holding the caliper to the knuckle.

Great idea.

Does it feel like the st. wheel is giving you a hand massage everytime you brake? (bump bump bump rub rub rub) As i would describe it.

Sounds like the anti-rattle clips are missing. Go to napa, autozone or advance auto and get the rear brake hardware kit. It has the clips in it. They fit on the caliper bracket and keep the pads from moving around when the brakes arent applied.

all the bolts holding the caliper are nice and tight, i just checked 2 days ago. i pulled everything off and tightend everything back down and it was exactly like it was before i started.

and no, it doesn't feel like the wheel massages me when i hit the brakes. although i do have a subaru that does that when i brake from about 90 mph...

i think the winner is the anti rattle clips. that sounds exactly like my problem. i thought somehting like that might be my problem. i just did the brakes on my grandma's mini van and they've got little springs on them to keep them from rattling.
i will let you know if that fixes it! thanks a lot for your help guys!

I have the exact same problem!!!!And yes,It's the anti-rattle clips-Iknow for a fact that I didn't put them back in when I did a pad and rotor job.They didn't rattle before I did the brake job.......$18 at the auto store!!!!

fixed it! i went to the parts store and got the anti rattel clips, went back to my garage, pulled my wheel off and they were on there!?! so i was like WTF? anyways, i pondered for a while and cut up a piece of steel roofing that i had left over from a house i roofed and i made a shim. i stuck it the caliper and the outside brake pad. POOF! no more rattle! after i was done is when i looked in my book and saw that they are supposed to have a shim in there somewhere.
anyways, just thought i would let you know i fixed it. thanks guys!
