i got all new lifters installed under my warranty at a very good mitsu dealer. when they started the car for me it was idling very very rough. it sounds like a damn muscle car with cam work. it surges very rapidly. furthermore, when at idle the vac on my boost gauge is reading about 10, which is much lower than usual... usually it reads 15 hg in. or more. on the boost side, ive been afraid to hit full boost, but it did go as high as 13psi when i hit it a bit. they told me to bring it back in sometime next week for the whole day so they can mess with some stuff, but i dont want to be sitting there somewhere and not be able to keep my car at idle. it almost feels like it wants to stall. also, when they were sitting there with the car idling rough, the mechanic was tinkering with a screw on the intake manifold but that didnt seem to do anything. any ideas?

took it in, turns out one of my plugs had gone bad and that was the reason for the rough idle, and on the way over, another plug went and the car would barely run. im going to pick it up in a few min, and i will let you know how it runs. it always did run kinda rough, but nothing serious. now we shall see.

ok, it is fixed! it was the plugs and wires!!!!! my car now idles where it should, it is no longer rough, my vac side of my boost gauge is reading where it should (for the first time since i installed it), and the throttle response is much different. wow, i cant beleive it.
just had my dad look at it and he told me the next time i drive it should only be on the way back to that dealership. he said it sounds like the timing might be off, there could be an intake leak, or any number of things. also when it idles with the hood up we can hear some sort of electrical arching. tomorrow morning, at the ass crack of dawn i am taking this thing back over there and telling them not to give it back until it is fixed... cause it runs worse than when i gave it to them.

is it bad to drive it like this? what exactly is happening to it when its off?(timing)

i dunno, my dad told me not to drive it and he has been working on cars since he could walk, so i trust that. i will take it over and keep you posted on what is wrong so that you can try to fix your car.

thanks a bunch, i hope its not to hard on it, i have to drive to where ever i want it fixed..im not messing with anymore timing belts

yeah, i gotta drive it to the dealership tomororw morning to. it seems to drive like normal, but it does seem to be lacking in low end torque.

Do a search on the BISS screw because you didnt say whether or not the mechanic just "fooled" with it or adjusted it correctly. Do not drive your car with the timing off. You can easily check your camsprocket marks by taking off the upper timing cover. My intake cam is off one tooth and the car runs like shit. If it goes like 2 or 3 your valves could hit your pistons from what ive heard. Good Luck!

i really hope its a bad ground of some sort...this is scurry.

explain the scurry......

new plugs and wires arent that expensive, and they take like 15 min to install... the hardest part is getting the wrench down to the plugs. also, when you take off your plug cover, use a wrench and not a screw driver.... those screws are really soft for some reason and i ended up stripping them. luckily, you can use a socket wrench to take them off.

also, get aftermarket plugs and wires cause they are cheaper than the OEM ones.

scurry=scary
scary because i could have bent the valves in my just rebuilt head. And im not sure what my problem is exactly, i ahve brand new wires, new plugs im gettin tonight, but sounds like you got really lucky. im an unlucky person, theirs proly holes in my pistons or something cool:barf:

maybe man, definatel worth looking into. good luck to ya. btw, im usually a very unlucky person.

Not sure, but maybe noone saw my post, my car did the exact same thing, just loosen the two bolts that hold the cam angle sensor on the side of the head, then rotate it in either direction while it s running until you get it where the idle is back to normal, voila, problem solved, tighen bolts, and enjoy.

mmm yeah new plugs didnt do it...this is gonna get intereresting.

i got a number of things to check.... fuel filter, intake manifold gasket, BISS screw, timing belt, cam angle sensor, idle control motor, ignition coil, and uh, i forget the rest right now.

so i was one tooth off. just incase anyone was wondering..sorry to jack your thread..learn from my mistake :thumb:
