Oceanside,
i might need to get new lifters but i can't afford to right now, so i was just going to clean them, i have resonable knowledge on working on cars i have done all the basic bolt-on's myself but have never worked on the internals before, i have the vfaq for cleaning the lifters but i'm still worried about messing somthing up big time, is it easy to do? should i attempt it?

Well, we can't tell how much of an Edison or a dork you are.

But the usual answer is "yes". It's one of the easiest internal jobs around.

However, if you're looking to defeat lifter tick, you may be better-off with a chemical approach. Look over the shelves at whatever parts store you deal with, and grab the can that looks prettiest and says "lifter" on it. It may take care of the problem for you.

i tried the chemical approach and i didn't work, so i will try clening the lifters myself, thanks (and i'm not a dork)

Okay, so if your a geek, than take a stab at it. It shouldn't be that hard. Just remember not to torque the valve cover too much or else you'll be getting a new one.

some advise: use papertowels or shop cloths to block rockerarms from popping off and falling into hard to reach areas(it gets annoying).

i cleaned the lifters without a problem sweet slince however my ecu is still pulling timing.

Before you do this I advise you try Restorer from Wal-mart it comes in a silver can its about $5 a pop. This stuff worked wonders for me, it silenced them quite well. Your mileage may vary, but it helped in my case.
