i recently purchased a 1995 auto talon tsi awd, this past friday. And the car had a rattle to the exhaust, so i took the car to a merlins for a oil change and to fix the rattle(the heat shield was hitting the exhaust) So i get my car back and as soon as i am about to into my subdivision, theres a stop sign. I stop and the oil gauge goes low and the oil light goes on, im like WTF! as soon as i got on the gas the light turned off and the gauge went up.

I checked the oil, and merlins put in about 5 quarts! So i drained it and i refilled the oil, i had it right below the line on the dipstick. So i thought the problem was fixed, after 15mins of driving the oil light came back on. The light only comes on when the car is at idle. As soon as i get on the gas the light goes away. I checked the oil level again and its fine. Whats going on? can the oil pump be at fault? i have a check engine light on but that is from the secondary o2 sensor. Will the CEL come on if the oil pump is faulty? Also this is suposed to be my daily driver(so i dont have to drive my mr2 turbo that much) so whoever can help, please post.

Your oil pressure light sender is shot.

That "level" gauge is your oil pressure. It will drop to almost nothing at idle.

If you run a DSM low on oil, the lifters will set off such a racket that you'll shut the motor down while it's probably still safe.

Find an owner's manual on eBay or the like. Don't be too concerned with whether it's an Eagle or a Mitsubishi, just make sure it's later than '94. The differences between the cars are minor details.
