smoking at idle

ok, i just put a new head gasket and timing belt on my car. it was running great for the first 60 or so miles. i parked it for a couple hours at night then went out again. when i started the car up, it had the usual little bit of smoke when there is moisture in your exhaust. about an hour and a half later, it was still doing it. when i'm driving it doesn't smoke at all. when it's at idle, it smokes. not a whole lot but not a little. also, it doesn't smell, taste or look like coolant. i know my pcv valve is shot and i'm replacing that tonight so i know that is causing some blowby. any thoughts? i'm really at a loss here....

How is the turbo spooling? Maybe its the seals? Did you check the oil return line to see if any oil is leaking on the DP or do a compression check/leakdown test. How is the car driving?? BTW is your car White? with some rust on the driverside above the rear wheel well?

the turbo spools great. the car runs awesome. it doesn't do it when you first start it up but after about 30 seconds it starts. i haven't done a leadown/compression test on it yet. and no, my car isn't white but i know someone who has the exact car you're talking about. it's a white 90 laser with a talon wing on it and a little rust. mine's a 93 green tsi. btw, where in michigan do you live?

Im near flint. the reason i asked is because i recently saw that talon at mongolian bbq when i ate there. thats a weird problem if everything seems to be running good??? Get those compression numbers and maybe try a to find any leaks with a tester. Has the problem gotten better with the warmer weather?

i figured out what it is. it's the dumbest thing. i have a hole in my flex pipe. it only smokes on rainy/moist days. the hole in the flex pipe is sucking in moisture and thus smoking out the exhaust. really dumb thing. anyways, car runs great. turbo boosts strong. we should hook up sometime since michigan dsmer's are scarce. go cruise gratiot or something.

thats good to hear! yeah we should cruize around. im working on my ride as we speak so it should be good to go by the end of next week (crossing fingers X).
