to anyone that can help,

I blew the head gasket on my 95 eagle talon tsi, no sweat! Well, i replaced it and P & P the head while i had it off. I race most of my cars, so i knew that i would have to do work on it. changed the valve seals and all the upper gaskets(exh. manifold, int. manifold, etc). Took the whole ac system out, compressor, condensor, everything. It wasn't working and all it was is dead weight. took the head to a machine shop, had them leak test it for leaks, none found, also had them deck it level. it got new valves. bottm end of the engine is fine. put all back together and it would not crank, it turns over but does not start. so i checked to make sure the plugs were gapped properly .028 and also checked the wire routeing. o.k. there, so i had some turn over the motor with the plugs out of it to check for fire. i wasn't getting any fire from the 4-1 coil, so i figure bad coil or ignition module. ohm out the coils and also swap sides, still no fire from the 4-1 coil, so i'm thinking bad module replace it still same problem. i check the cranksensors, both of them, and the readings do not meet specs. so i replace both top and bottm sensors and ign. module at the same time. still no fire on 4-1!!! i pull the computer out and open it up to see if something is fried or smoked, can't see any burn marks or smell any components. i also checked to make sure that all the plugs were in the right place. and they seemed to be. checked all the readings from the harness and they all read good except for the camshaft position sensor, which was reading 5 volts while cranking and it should be reading between .3-3 volts and 5volts while it is running. is there anything anyone could tell me before i go spending the money for a new computer or taking it to the dealership, this very frustrating, seeing as that i have only hae the car for about 5 months and it has been done for about 1 month. and now me and the other half r down to one car.

I have been working on cars for a good 10 years and i cannot think of anything i am missing. my roommate also looked at it and he couldn't find anything wrong short of it being the computer or the wiring harness. we both race and fix our own cars, so i value his opinon. this the first dsm i have ever owned and i actually enjoyed it when it was running, but this is driving me crazy. anything is better than nothing!!!

thanks,

sonny riley

so i take it, that the only thing it could probably be is the computer. due to the lack of responses.

Yea, im thinking the computer. You say you have tried and tested every electrical part, and it doesnt seem to fix it. So its prob the comp.

ok all, got some more info!!! i sent my computer down to Tampa to Foriegn Auto Computer Repair to have it checked and either rebuilt or replaced. They checked it out and said it was fine, atleast the parts that they could check. they said that there were parts of it that could not be checked. so, this is what they are going to do. They are sending me another computer that is going to be socketed for $225.00, that is the cost for them to rebuild a computer. They said if it fixes the problem than we are square, if it doesn't than send it back and i can get a refund and my old computer socketed for $20.00. all i am out than is the shipping to get the computers to them. i think that is pretty fair and cool, yeah, i know can they be trusted. I don't really know, but the dealership here in Warner Robins recommended them and i got the number from the master tech up there.

if it fixes it i will be happy as can be!!! if not than i am back to square one. please if anyone knows anyone that has ever had a problem like this let me know something. if you know any other dsm techs that you can bounce this across it would be greatly appreciated. i love my talon, but i am almost to my ends whit with it. my other half tells me not to worry about it, but it starting to make me feel like crap. i am always haveing to take her here or there or the other way around. i' m just very frustrated and don't know where to go with this.

Please if anyone can help a fellow DSMer out, it will be greatly appreciated.

Stop bumping this thread up unless your posting information that is helpful to your situation. Plus from now on if you need to post another sentence to a post you already posted hit the "EDIT" feature on your post and add it in.

check to make sure you have the coil pluged in correctly. I did that on my car after putting in my 850's. the crank sensor and the coil pack are the same exact plugs. switch them and see what happens. My car just cranked then I switched them and she fired right up. Hope thats your problem.

hey sonny

im in the same boat with you. im having the same problem and no
responses too. although i dont have the years of experience
that you do i do work on my car myself but only
minor wrenching. my car turns too but wont start and mine
died out on the street. i dunno if they are somehow related.

hopefully you can get an answer and maybe that will help
us both.

GOOD LUCK!

ok all, replaced the computer with the good one i was sent. problem not fixed. the only thing i can think of now is the wiring harness. is there suppose to be continuity between the red wire on the crank sensor-harness side with ground or not with the car off. also does the iac have anything to do with thae spark on this car. and where is the MFI relay.

the problem is your cam angle sensor...

sorry I haven't replied when you needed it but I just found your thread...I'm also having a crank but no start problem...mine is after turning the car back to stock.

Anyway...One time I was testing for spark...at first I knew I had spark in all four cylinders...this time I tested again and the 1-4 coil was out...I thought shit, what happened...I had just replaced my injector O-rings cause I thought I tore one of them which cause a vacuum leak and me not being able to start my car (since my car seems to have a vacuum leak)...

anyway, what happened was I had forgot to plug the Cam Angle Sensor back in...this causes the 1-4 coil pack not to fire...

I plugged it back in and eeverything there was good...car still won't start...but I get spark in all the cylinders...and I get fuel in all the cylinders too...and timing wasn't even touched...

So it has to be a big vacuum leak somewhere...

anyway...it also seems likely your Cam angle sensor could have been damaged since you were doing head work and all...replace it and see if that finally fixes your problem:thumb:

####...seriously...damn I coulda sworn...I did read that you replace both top and bottom sensors...I wasn't sure what you ment by top...but I guess you ment Cam angle...hmmm ohh well...

it is possible that the actual coil pack went bad...although that is very, very rare...
