I have a 98 GSX with about 53000 miles on it...runs great and have had absolutly no problems with it at all. I have full 3" exhaust, greddy type-s blow off valve, autometer boost and a/f gauge all installed...over christmas break up got a big 16g, walbro 255, and and injen intake with extreme motorsports intake...nothing is installed yet, i've been lazy and its cold out...but yesterday me and my friend were bored so we put on the injen intake to my STOCK turbo...the car sounded incredible and the blow off valve sounded like it was going to fly off but my boost went insane....i be in 3rd gear and my boost would shoot to 20 psi...im scared sh*tless to drive my car now...i just ordered a hallman's pro boost controller...what do you guys think i should do? do you think i should just let my car chill for a while until the BC comes in? or do you think i am alright to drive for a while?

i have almost the same mods.injen intake, 3in exhaust, greddy intercooler piping and bov......when istalled the intake and my greddy kit, i overboosted to 20 psi also......checked out all the lines to make sure it was hooked up right........found out it was my actuator (which supposed to rarely go bad) on my stock turbo.......as for driving i did when i needed to and never hit full boost till i got the actuator in and fixed.......

Good luck wit the prob. (know how it feels).:dsm:

With my car stock except for my 3 inch n1 catback and n1 downpipe with no cat car would hit 17psi and fuel cut ..scared hell out of me.
My solution since was upgrading everything anyway was just get big injectors, maf and maft and now don't care let it run 17psi.The boost controller does nothing except let me raise boost a bit higher but the stock 1g blow off valve bleeds off boost past 17 anyway .

So agree must be your wastegate no opening or a leak in lines to wastegate.A manual boost controller likely won't do nothing .You can direct connect a line from turbo nipple to wasteagate and then you should see minimum stock boost like 10 to 11 psi.If you still get it going way higher than likely stuck gate or bad actutator but you have a new turbo to install so just put that on.Your problems should go away although you might have trouble runnning the new turbo under 15psi or so.
Do you still have a cat on the car..? No cat really raises the boost level.

In issue of import tuner they had a 92 dsm and it would go to like 17psi with no boost controller ,they also had a n1 catback and n1 downpipe with no cat. They fixed the problem with a fuel cut defeat and bigger fuel pump, didn't go with bigger injectors.Car is pretty safe at 17psi or so with a upgraded fuel pump and maybe a rewire.20 isn't so safe though on stock pump and injectors.

yeah thanks a lot guys...i have no cats or anything...straight 3" all the way through...so i guess its my wastgate actuator...i am going to check it out next time im home from school...im putting on my new turbo in 2 weeks anyway, i'll try not to drive it that much or hopefully try and fix the problem with the actuator...thanks for everything

Yea it does sound like the WG not opening. Like AL92 said the BC won't do anything - you can't lower boost with it. Just noticed your from delaware, always cool to see a fellow delaware DSMer ;) Im down in new castle I don't go up to wilmington much LOL. Well im not a full DSMer yet I still drive an 86 benz :barf: LOL good luck with finding the problem!

Guess ill hop in here and represent DE :p

20 psi on a t25 isnt going to hurt anything. It runs outta steam way b4 that anyway. I wouldnt be too worried about driving it around. Hell a couple people around here have their t25s up at around 19-20 for months at a time.

well while we are on the topic of DE...my 2 friends are from DE but they are usually hanging out with me and we use 202 all the time...my one friend has a 03 cobra with cat back exhaust and my other has a ridiculous 95 tsi talon...front mount, HUGE turbo, DSM link...etc, its ridiculous...thought you guys wanted to know

Check the DSM meets, we are having a DE one here in a few months, you and your boys should hit it up.

well it turns out that when you have full 3" exhaust and intake you need a boost controller...it wasn't my wastegate actuator, the stock boost controller just couldn't handle all of the boost, thats why it was shooting up to 20 psi...but i bout a hallman pro boost controller and that did the trick, my car is running perfect...thanks for everyones response
