Hey guys! Ok here's the deal. I bought a new motor for my car-97 GST w/ walk. I know this was a bad choice, but I opt for another 7-bolt. It's been laying around since January, so today me and my buddy tore the oil pan off to check for walk. Here's the thing... we checked it with a feeler gauge I think it's called? I don't remeber what it's called, but I know we used the right one. My friend is a tech-I'm not. Lol! Anyway, I bought the motor from someone on this board in Ohio, he said it had 45,000 miles on it (out of a 95) with no signs of c walk. I took his word for it and bit the bullet. So, today we got it up on the stand and gauge read the crank moved 9 to 12 thousanths of an inch. Factory spec is 3 to 6, correct? My question is... one of the rods was missing a bearing. Would that have any effect on the play of the crank? I e-mailed him and he said he saw no signs of walk-for some reason I believe him. My friend said not having the rod bearing in would not effect it. What do you guys think????
If it doesn't affect the play, then yes, I will buy a 6-bolt. If not, we'll put the bearing in and double check. Live and learn I guess. Thank you so much for any help! Please, no... "Shoulda got a 6-bolt" I know this, no one needs to tell me. Again, thanks a lot!
