This will probably be long, but please read it, i have no idea what i should do with my car anymore...i've tried so much....if anyone replies i thank you in advance...
I got my car about 2 months ago, and originally it idled high right before i bought it. so the guy wanted to try and get it right before he sold it to me, so he put a different ISC from a friend in and thats how i got it. Everything about the car was great except idle, it pulls hard, etc.
After i drove it home it had idle surge and thats when i joined this msg board. Everyone yelled, ISC ISC! So i tested it and sure enough it was bad. So i got a new ISC and put that in and it still surged like 1000-1500. Stumped, but i had to go to college, so i drove it up there since it ran good otherwise. Before leaving i did plugs, and wires look new and have no cracks..
I heard a hacked MAF can be bad, so i got a stock one. No change. Someone mentioned TPS, so i changed that too. Nothing. Then finally i got another ECU used from a guy on the trader for like $80. Thats when things changed.
The day I swapped ECUs.... I put the new one in and started the motor anxiously. The car then idled HIGH! Like 2000RPM and up depending on the weather. So i said to myself, id rather have a low idle surge then constant high! So i went to put the old ECU back in and then it was still high again!! Like it all decided to idle high once i removed the stock ECU. I thought maybe i just had 2 shitted ECUs on my hand, but the car still ran fine otherwise.
So since it idled high I decided to do the FIAV block to see if my pellet was messed up. So I found an extra TB from my friend to do the blockoff on. I made a gasket from a coke can. This TB is whats on the car now. Now when i start it, instead of idling high it idles around 1000, but super rough and sputters and dies sometimes, and smells really rich. I figured its because the weather is still chilly and i blocked that fast idle valve. So i drove it for a while to let it warm up. When i came to a stop, it was idling again at 1900, sometimes dying to 900 and sputtering sounding like dying, and then coming back to 1900.. If i use the BISS to try and idle it down, it will then sputter at the low RPM and stall.
So now, pretty much every low RPM (below 1000) the car sputters and wants to stall. I would almost be positive its a vac leak, but i hooked up a IC tester to my pipes (the UICP i took off the intercooler and put it on the end of that) and it held pressure good, my boost gauge went down really slowly like i believe it should. Im gonna test it at the turbo inlet tonight, but i doubt leaks cause i boost excellent. I have no idea what else it could be. I swear i can hear a hissing sound around the intake area, but since it doesnt leak during the test i figured it was air rushing through my hard pipes.
One more thing, i noticed a hair crack on my exh manifold about 1.25" long, which when i start engine cold, looks like it gets moist around it then evaporates. Could a tiny hair leak in the exh manifold cause all these problems?? itd be embarrasing but also a relief hah.
I am thinking of selling the car just beacause i dont know where to head from here, ive tried everything i can think of. Thanks for reading guys..im so depressed and tired of playing the game with this car..i just need some direction :talon:

You should change the o-ring on the BISS Screw. It will cost you a few cents at the local hardware store. Once you change it, ground the plug by the firewall so the ECU does not interfere and set the idle by turning the screw. I had that problem and I changed everything on the planet and finally put a new o-ring and things started working.

ok will try that, however the one on the biss looks good still, thanks a lot. any other ideas?

I know this sounds dumb, but I took mine off and it did look pretty decent, but once I swapped it, it solved the problem. Give it a shot it' worth it. :D

yeah i will, i'll try anything after all I've been through hahah! thanks. I dont know if this has anything to do with it but im running disgustingly rich when i try to get it to idle, i get a headache when im parked and trying to work on it! forgot to mention that i think.

heres a few things off the top of my head...check for any leaks in the intake tract, u said u hear hissing on idle, if its got an intake leak than it will idle really high, also check the seals that seal the space between the tip of the injector and the intake manifold, im not sure how often they go bad but i know ive seen dry rotted ones before. might want to check the vacuum line coming from the fuel pressure regulator too, one time mine popped off and the car idled at 2000 rpms.

ok thanks a lot guys!!... i did some work this morning. I got a new o-ring for the biss, because i wanted to be sure, but it didnt help. Also did a pressure test from the turbo inlet on, and no leaks, held it all just great. I have new plugs, and i could guess the wires but at night i see no arcing, could wires just go bad w/o any way to know for sure, but i have no driveability problems. So i guess it could be a sensor somewhere....o2 maybe? bad MAF... what a rediculous car.. haha

Try pulling the connection to idle switch. The car will measure flow instead of what it thinks it should be. Also you can try replacing the spring on the throttle body and re-adjusting the throttle cable.

ok i pulled the connection to the idle switch, but the car didnt do anything different!!!! I thought it would change something  But this is also the second idle switch i have tried, and im getting continuity when throttle is closed, and it is properly adjusted. Maybe the ECU is bad?? Any ideas??

I had a problem that sounds very close to yours, my problem ended up being a blown intake manifold gasket. While the car is at idle spray stp carb cleaner around the manifold to head gasket, injectors etc.. If the idles changes any at all then you know what to do. After I changed mine my idle smoothed out perfect, it was idling way high, low eratic and rough. :thumb:

I too, also thought maybe the intake mani gasket? But doing the pressure test, it all held fine, there were no gasket leaks. Cause a pressure test would show those right? I appear to have no vac leaks...this is incredible haha.... any other comments on the idle switch that was brought up? thanks guys...i cant wait to fix this and post what the solution haha....im afraid of being one of the guys here that has to learn to live w/ a bad idle :(

on edit:
Just been thinking, I've gone through as much as possible mechanically, are there any sensors that could cause rough idling/high idling (not surge, just missing during idle)? Bad MAF maybe?

i also thought maybe the O-rings on the injectors could be bad and leaking, but wouldnt a pressure test reveal this? or not?
