Heater Core is Steaming / Smoking/ Foggy Windows..

Hey gang... My Heater Core must bee leaking or something... I have all the symtoms of a damaged core.
Foggy windows… White smoke from Defrost vents… and the sweet smell of Carolina coolant! A cornerstone of every drive!

I just replaced my engine’s cooling system and now I have this issue.

I have new fluid, new radiator, new hoses, new T-Stat, and new Radiator cap... So all is well with the cooling system. A long time ago I notice moisture on the passenger side floor… not the case now… this was a year ago… so I doubt it was the core…

So I guess I need to replace this unit.

My question:

Where is the Heater Core on a 2GNT?
How hard is it to replace?
Are there ways to bypass this unit until I can get it fixed?
Is bypassing a bad thing?
Are there any write ups on doing the Bypass… I have no clue where the thing is
Are heater cores expensive?
Has anyone had the dealer do this work for them?
Did you DIY?
Are there any write ups on how to DIY?

Thanks in advance!

i think its under the Glove box....not sure though,..why dont u look in the engine compartment and look wher too water hoses go into the Firewall...thats where ur Core would be(on the other side ofcourse)

it could be tough to do,i guess u gotta remove the Glovebox and all that interior stuff..and then when u find it,u gotta take it out(drain coolant first)

heres a tip

when u find the Core and see that its leaking(maybe its just a connecting hose?) u gotta get the water outta there..just disconnect the hosres in the Engine compartment and blow the water out (with compressed Air or if u have a strong garden Pond pump, suck the water outta there...less messy)

and it might be a good idea to put allotta newspaper in ur floor wells to soak up the water thatll come out while replacing that core..

ur car will stink for at least a week if u let coolant get on the carpet...

hope this helps

im pretty sure its under the glovebox or a little bit in the Middle under the Dash...why dont u remove the Radio and the console and the Glovebox to try and get a better view of things?

good luck..

Edit..u can prolly bypass it at the two hoses that go into the Firewall behind the engine..just undo the two hoses and use a peice of pipe(make sure the diameter is right) to connect em together("Short circuiting" the water hoses to the heater core)..ive done this on other cars before..not a dsm,but it woulkd prolly be the same

heres a pic..
