I bought my GST in October...since the day I've owned it, the CEL light has been on.

I figured this was due to the fact that the catalytic converter had been removed and the rear O2 sensor was giving a bad reading.

Well...installed a 1G throttle body adjusted the TPS sensor according to the RRE guide.

Friend of mine had an OBD II scan/erase tool with him one day, we checked the car and come to find out that the O2 sensor isn't what's tripping the CEL light...it's the TPS.

The OBD tool says that there are 2 codes present, but this is the only code that's coming up:

P1020 TPS/Pedal posistion circuit A

I spent last night adjusting/re-adjusting the TPS to no avail. The CEL light came back on this morning, I hooked up the OBD II and got the same P1020 code (x2).

Any ideas/thoughts/suggestions?

Anyone know if not having this adjusted will hurt anything? My light comes on about 24 hours after I clear the code, it is a brand new TPS, so again I know it is not that. So I am assuming that it is just because it is not adjusted right.

I just bought my 99 gst bone stock like a week ago. on the way home from buyin git the bel came on. I ran it using the tool and its doing the SAME thing yours is, says 2 codes but both are the same this the p10blah whatever it is. I clear it and about 40 miles later it comes back on. Doesnt seem to affect performance.
I was thinkin of replacing it but i dont know it if would be a waste of money. I dont know how to adjust it, so ill prob just let it be lit up.

I had it replaced and adjusted by the dealer about a month ago and now it is back, so I am taking in the car tomorrow to have it fixed again, I will let you know what they tell me...maybe this is a recal problem soon? Seems alot of people are having this prob.

A friend of mine's car was doing this and it turned out to be the actual connection itself. The metal clip that goes around the base of the connector somehow was very loose; after a while of driving, it would loosen itself up just enough to trip the ECU every once in a while.

If it's under warranty, don't worry about it ;) Let them replace the whole TB & all sensors :thumb:

I also had this code on my 2G, and successfully got rid of it. I did the adjustment as stated on RRE's website and the Chilton manual. I followed the instructions down to the last detail. Did you use a feeler gauge as instructed?

Yeah, I also cleaned out both connectors really good with compressed air. I don't know if that is what fixed it, though.

You would be amazed at how much a good connector cleaning in the engine bay can improve performance of the car.
