Help ....I asked my bro to change my spark plugs while i was at school, he accidently used a regular socket (13/16) instead of a spark plug socket to remove the plug:cry: .....and now the socket is extremely difficult to remove, its stuck!

I tried wiggleling it and moving it side to side but the dang thing doesn't want to get out. It turns but barely, i'm not sure if he tried to forcefully put it in there in the first place.

Any ideas or ways i can get this out?

TIA

You're going to need to get something that can get down inside of the socket, to hook into it so you can really give it a good yank and pull it out.

My favorite tool of choice is heavy metal coathangars.

Take one, and straighten it out. Bend about a half of an inch of the end over, so it's in a sharp v hooked shape. Jam that down inside the square hole in the back of the socket, and then the V should hook onto it. Then give it a good yank.

Needle-nose pliers.

Oh, and while you're at the part store? A HeliCoil kit. He crossed the threads, besides.

Let me know if you need help disposing of his horribly-battered body. We'll hope this level of brain non-function isn't genetic.

Defiant, yup, u called that one, my family just filed a missing persons report moments after my car was towed away last night.(i was the last person seen with my bro, but i have no ideas of his whereabouts):shhh:

i just got my car back from the dealer, they had to grind the socket just to pull it out and when i tried tightening the spark plug, it just kept on turning and f'n turning. Damn it!:barf:

at least i have my car back in my hands. but yea i need to get a helicoil kit.

i tried searching but i can't find anyone trying to do this for a spark plug thread, can anyone direct me to where more info on rethreading or the helicoil kit

TIA

Sorry this was a good laugh.

None of us know anything about it, you got that? It's part of the DSM creed. Dopey Siblings Murdered, Didn't See Much, Don't Speak Mistakenly, Defense Seeks Mistrial, Defendant Sent Meandering, Dead Stinking Meat.

Don't panic the HeliCoil, sparkplug threads in aluminum heads was the first thing they were invented for. It's a much easier job than thinking about it is, and it's completely durable. The little bit of crumbs that might make it into the combustion chamber will be ejected without consequence. Make sure both valve sets are closed, and use a needle to inject compressed air into the cylinder to blow it out before putting the plug back in. Anything left over will go through the turbine with no ill effect.

had that happen before...what i did was shove the handle part of the socket wrench ( you know the gritty handle part ) and yanked that son bi*** out...worked damn good.

Hey, I hate to bring up a dead topic, but we are having this same problem. The car is a 97 GS-T, and we have already changed the rest of the plugs. On the first one we tried to take out we used a Craftsman socket and it got stuck. It is below the rubber piece in the hole, but it is not on the plug. The plug is not stripped, but the socket is STUCK. I don't think a coat hanger will be strong enough to budge the socket, but the socket can be turned with a bit of force. Would taking off the valve cover give us access to it, or does the little rubber piece seperate the valve cover from something else? Please help us!!!

Yep. That little rubber piece separates the head from the valve cover. Removing the valve cover will let you get to atleast where that piece of rubber is. It's definitely worth a try with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Ok so I am bringing up a very old thread here, my friend was changing my spark plugs for me while I was adjusting my tps and he got a socket WEDGED in the spark plug hole, we tried welding bolts to the top of the socket and using a slide hammer...didnt work, we tried drilling holes and tapping them to screw bolts in....didnt work. I dont know what to do and i would really rather not have to rebuild my head so if ANYONE has ANY ideas please help a noob out i just bought this 91 gst a week ago and im coming off an integra so im still getting to know this eclipse, thanks.

Holy crap. If a Morgan knocker on a weldment didn't yank it out, I'd not know what to tell you.
I'm curious how he got it that wedged. Is it the right sized socket, or did he put it on with a hammer?

Dang I have the same problem! i used a 21mm Deep snap-on socket. First time around, I was able to check all 4 spark plugs with no problem. When the time came to replace them, I got to the first plug, took the old one out, then put the new one it, and then the socket will not come out. It came out the other bunch of times, why not now? i dont know, its pure freakin magic. anyways, nothing is working, I just ordered a set of 1/2" locking extensions, so hopefully, I can get it out. It stuck in there real good and I didnt even use any force. It was hand tightened. I don't think I couldve done any better with a spark plug socket...

Not gonna lie, ok I didn't read the whole thread. Any who a pilot bearing puller/slide hammer, I promise will get that socket out as long as it's not a 1/4'' drive(which would be odd enough anyway)

BTW you into MMA?

Something similar to this but on a smaller scale. I can't tell how big the claw end is in this pic
