I recently picked up dyno tune digital EGT gauge and was wonding why the temperatures it is displaying are so low. It reads in degrees celcius which should be between 600-700 but never has gone above 430. I went WOT down a street and it stayed around 415. While cruising at 50 MPH in 4th gear the temp read between 180 and 220. The other thing I was going to mention is that when i pulled up to my house and turned my headlights off, the temp jumped up about 40 degrees. Can anyone give me an idea of what may be wrong. thanks

Is your car running right?

also, turning off your headlights should make any difference.
mabye a wiring problem?

I got an email back from the company and they suggested that the probe may be dirty or damaged. I have the power and ground wired to the cigarette lighter and the rest is almost idiot proof (I thought), black to black, white to white, blues together and wire to a ground, browns together and wire to power. I not quite sure what you mean by PL. The car seems to be running fine and i figured the same thing about the headlights thats why this thing really has me bothered.

whats up with the headlight thing? when i have mine on it idles about 200rpms less then normal, is that normal? or do i have a bad battery or something?

I tapped about 5" down the runner (closest to belts) from the head. The car is completely stock except for ACT clutch and no i don't have a logger yet. I went to school this morning and it seemed to be running fine, avg. was around 460-490 at cruising, and it peaked at ~590+ at WOT. The headlight thing still occurs though. I got to my house and let it idle for a couple of minutes to get a good idea of where the temp was (210-220). when i would turn my lights on, the temp would drop all the way down to 20-30.

Sounds like an electrical problem or a malfunctioning gauge. I would try running the power wire somewhere else, possibly directly off the battery/ignition; just to rule out an electrical problem. If the problem persists, I would try obtaining a replacement from the manufacturer.

thanks for the advice everyone. i talked to a few guys at my dealership and one said it sounded like it's not able to draw enough power off the lighter and to look for another spot to tap into at.

i would check and make sure your gauge has a good ground. i had a similar problem when i first installed my egt gauge and it would cause it to jump around w/ high current draws off the battery like turning on heat/ac, heatlights, power windows.

Dude take the power off of the fuse pannel by your feet. Use the radio or ignition fuse. Strip away some paint by your feet and use a self tapping screw to ground the gauge. after you fix the power then suspect the guage.

Hope that helps

I think thats normal. mine has done that since i got it. the battery just died a week ago, and it still does it now that i have the new one. just think, the headlights are drawing a bit of power away from what would normally go t the engine, so the engine is just adjusting
