sputter missfire question. 95 Talon Tsi Awd w/ 1G engine.

car runs ok while driving at about 2500-3000 RPMs , EGT's about 1000*F in 4th or 5th gear and all of the sudden it looses massive power, EGT's drop to 700 *F, A/F gauges goes absolutely crazy (way worse than normal A/F!!!).....
there you have it! if i try to accelerate it sounds like it's only running on 2 cylinders almost! if i shut the car off and start it right back up, voila! runs perfect again.
also my idle is pretty screwy, sometimes when comming to a stop there's a loug BOOM! and it dies. it idles like crap pretty much, stays around 1k RPMs and drops down to 800 then bounces back up (absolutely no load on engine when it does this) and sounds like it's going to die....sometimes it does die!
point me in a direction!

any help with anything would be great!!!!! thanks guys :thumb:

im experiencing a similiar problem, it almostsounds like the exahust is coughing LOL. When i took of my stock sidemount ic to clean it and put the pipes back in i think i pinched the crappy ic piping, this is my guess. Do you have the stock piping or hard pipes?

i've got hard pipes. the rough idleing thing i can live with, but the sputtering/misfire thing at 3k RPMs i can't!! when i get on the highway at 70 mph reving 3k rpms i have to shut my car off like 5 times in 20 miles!!!! i really need to find out what this is!

when idleing my exhaust also sounds kinda like it's coughing. i've got 3" turbo back exhaust w/ no cat. what do you have insearchof?

also i've noticed that sometimes when it's idleing like sh!t my air/fuel gauge will read completely lean. i dont know how reliable that is but when it idles normaly it bounces between lean and rich. just though i tould throw that in.

anyone got any ideas?? please! thanks!

im almost positive that its cylinder 1 misfire.....Ive had it before(i have a 1g head swap) and it just studders at about 3k RPM....It has to do with the 1g cam angle sensor being wires into the 2g CAS and whatnot...I disabled mine with the DSMLINKV2....im not sure how exactly to get rid of it without some engine management like the dsmlink

i never thought about that, i'll look into it though thanks man! if anybody esle has any ideas let me hear em!

thanks guys!

right after i put on the plug wires that are on there, it still did it. but maybe i just got a crapy set of wires.

ok, so i figured out my engines "cycle"

- when it runs like it's supposed to:
-EGT's at aprox. 1500 *F at 2k rpms going steady speed.
-idles good and air/fuel bounces around like suposed to.
-acceleration is great, air/fuel pegs to rich when flored.
-no sputtering or missfireing.
-when i turn off my car, my turbo timer works and keeps it running for 10 sec. (where i have it set, i have an apex'i TT)
-everything works like it's supposed to

- when i have the problem:
-EGT's drop to about 700 or 800 *F at 2k rpms going steady speed.
-barely idles on its own, air/fuel reads completely lean.
-acceleration is terrible!!! air/fuel goes completely crazy...
-sputters and seems to missfire like a mofo.
- when i turn of my car it shuts right away of instead of running for 10 sec. like it's suposed to.

once i shut my car off and start it back up it runs ok until this happens again. please help me, i'm looking into the CAS but until then any ideas are welcome! thanks guys! :thumb:

also when i have that problem i noticed that at idle my vac. is only around 10 or 8. dont know if that will help any.

i had the same prob to. but i fixed it. all the step i did. 1st i changed the wire, plugs, and adjust the biss screw problem was still there, 2nd i changed coil pack and adjust the timing, problem still there, 3rd i swap out fpr and injector and new battery, i notice idle was smooth but sputters for time to time, 4th got buschur afpr problem gone. i was running 255 on stock fpr a no no..

ahhh. i see now. guess what kind of FPR i've got....yes it's stock! so where did you get your FPR? how much did you pay? thanks a ton!
