Valves dented pistons are pistons shot??

im looking into buyin a 91 talon tsi. The timing belt broke and dented 2 pistons. The guy said just dremel it down and it should be fine. What is the input on this will it make the car run worse or bad? Just think it isnt a great idea. I would like as much input on this as possible. i tryed to attach a pic but dont know how to make it smaller. Let me knwo if you want the pic so you can decide what to do or if i should not waste my time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance

Justin

I was in the same situation a while back. I purchased the talon from a police auction and the timing belt broke as well denting the piston. At that time I not have the money to rebuild the engine so I actually used a dremel and smooth out the dents the best I could and replaced the head with one I bought off a guy on here. Personally I don't recommend doing it this way. If possible replace the pistons. How much is guy selling the car? If I can find a pic of the marks on my piston I will post it on here.

I much prefer to use a small ball-peen hammer and work the raised portion back into the dented area.

Use a wire brush on a drill motor so you can see your progress and knock off any sharp edges. Depending on the damage 5-10 min each piston, use lite blows, your not trying to bash anything or drive a nail in wood.

This way you don't remove anything, you don't change the balance and you have essentially forged the aluminum back into place by peening. You don't want any sharp edges for you can get hot spots which can cause pinging.

Cheers,
GTM
