Please help!!

95 GST is running like crap. There is white smoke pouring out of the tail pipe and It smells very rich. My a/f ratio guage is reading very lean at idle. Idle is very rough, sounds like its not running on all cylinders. Ran a check engine light test and it read that the ecu was faulty. #4 injector was also hung wide open.
All this happened after I replaced my stock turbo w/ a big 28. The car ran great after the swap until I started it the next day.

Replaced my ECU, cleaned up the plugs and it still runs like crap. #4 injector is doing fine now. No check engine lights being thrown either.

WHATS THE DEAL? WHERE SHOULD I LOOK NEXT?

I don't think I am losing coolant. I looked into the spark plug hole at the top of the piston and did not see any coolant drops. I checked the oil and it is only oil..no water visible on the dip stick or in the valve cover. All plugs are dry and clean and I am getting fire to each one.

The exhaust smells really rich and even shoots droplets of fuel(possibly left over from the hung injector).

Come on guys,

I need some replies, Am I looking at the symptoms of a fried piston or rings. Did I trash my head gasket? Is it something simple like a map sensor or o2 sensor?

Lets not jump to any conclusions here.

First do a compression test on the engine. This will help you see if you have a blown HG or fried rings.

There are several things that could be happening. First off you could have a leak inside the turbo itself that is screwing with the engine through the O2 sensors. Let the car cool off (overnight or something like that) and start it. If it runs ok for the first min then this may point in that direction as the engine is in open loop with the choke on.

Next you could have fried the rings somehow.

You could have the exhaust mani loose and you are getting clean air into the system

ETC ETC ETC.

STEPS TO FIX IMHO

#1 do the compression test. If everything checks out ok be happy.
#2 Check the coolant and oil levels at the caps.
#3 fill all fluids and reset the ECU. check all fasteners and fluid lines to turbo and exhaust in general
#4 restart the car and let it run for a good long time.
#5 see if the car is still smoking, jumping, etc. and if the fluid levels have dropped (let it cool before you open the coolant cap).

#6 if it is rule out the turbo first.
disconnect the fluid lines to the turbo and again run the car for a good long time to be sure the exhaust boils off anything that could be in the cat. Is the car still smoking? (if not the turbo is probably bad).

#7 Next work your way back. pull the exhaust manifold and run the car that way. Mitsu heads can develope cracks in the water jacket in the ehaust ports that will cause this for sure (happened to me 2 times).

get that done and let me know what you got.

Did the compression test....All holes checked out fine. Found two hoses left unhooked. One from the valve cover to the air inlet. and the other from the intake to the air inlet. Guess they were left off during turbo install.

This greatly decreased the indian smoke signals....but it is still smoking and still idling roughly. The a/f guage is not cycling but staying pretty steady on ideal....when you step on the throttle it leans out to nothing. Also lots of condensation(clear water) coming out of exhaust.

guys,

Got the problem fixed today, but I can't believe what it is. I took the car to a mechanic. He messed around w/ what he called the idle/air screw(I think its the B.i.s.s screw). In just a couple of minutes he had the car purring like a kitten...no more smoke. Could this be?

As I said before I just did a turbo swap from the t-25 to the big 28. Was I supposed to adj. the BISS as a part of my install? It was working just fine on the t-25?

unless you were trying to start it without pushing on the gas pedal this should not be the problem... when you push on the gas pedal to start the car you open up the tb and the air does not have to flow through the idle air passages.
