A FRIEND OF MINE WRECKED HIS ECLIPSE SPYDER 97 AND IS GOING TO GIVE IT TO ME FOR FREE SINCE HE RACED FOR SLIPS AND WON A TOYOTA SUPRA 95 IT LOOKS GOOD ANYWAYS IM CONSIDERING IT ITS GOING TO NEED FRAME WORK I WILL POST PICTURES THE ENGINE DOESNT LOOKED TOUCHED AND (im sorry i just now notice i was typing in caps) but the frame resitor bar or whatever is bent bad in the middle i guess it took the impact pretty good.... how much should it cost to repair the frame work on it? know any good places that will do it for cheap like Maaco or something? should i go ahead and get the car for free and repair it

need responses the car is in storage at a junk yard

It completely depends on where the impact occured on the body of the car. Several pics of the damage at different angles would help us form an opinion.

It sounds like you are describing a front end collision that bent the lower rad support, upper rad support, broke the bumper, taking out the a/c condenser, radiator, wiring harness damage, and possibly the center member support. As long as it whatever he hit didn't impact the actual frame, it should be relatively easy to fix. Do you notice the fenders pushed back a little or the front wheels off center? Is the windshield still intact? The motor still on its motor mounts? The air bags deployed? Those are some things to look for to determinet he severity of the impact.

motor mounts still there....windshield cracked.....airbags deployed...removed the bumper and driver side fender...radiator has a hole in it...wire harnest is ok...headers arent touched...it wont crank because he said the flywheel might b messed up (whatever that is)

Grab the car, take it apart, and sell the chunks on eBay.

These cars don't have a "frame" to straighten, they're unibody. The inner front fenders, the sheet metal of the rear fenders, the floor and the roof are the "frame". Fixing them once tweaked is very iffy, and sometimes unsafe.

What was the appraisal report on the repair for the car? If you cut that figure in half that is what it probably would cost to have a body shop do the repairs with used parts.

thats bull shit defiant.....why part an awsome car????? i rolled my 98 GSX and $4,000 later, its as good as new. If she got it free, whats 4Gs or even 6Gs. Damn DSMs are some of the best cars in the world...why part it??? look sweetie, you just need to get an estimate....cost 15 bucks at most, if you use there shop then it turns out to be free. Find a eclipse or a talon with a blowen engine. Since I had liability insurance on mine the insurance didn't get to total mine, but if they had a say so in it, the would just have wroting me a check. Just ask around ur city and go to the best body shop. If you give me a list of engine parts u need i can take them off the Talon i am parting.

Yeah just unbend the frame. All you need is a crowbar.

This is a unibody frame and this metal is thick. I don't think this guy understands that but if you have access to another 2G DSM spyder body, you can cut and weld the bent framed part I suppose.

Is it worth it? Prolly not. You can sell this one off in pieces and have enough money to buy a new DSM.

Oh, I apolgize. I'd not realized you'd seen the car she's talking about. I was just going on what she told us about it getting hit hard enough to break the windshield, and apparently so hard that the motor will no longer turn over. I see you clearly know better.

Hrmph. I got my '95 for $7K. But like you say, people are stupid.

Just some more than others, I guess.

im sorry for causing all of this chaos.... but i will get my digital camera tomorrow and put the pictures up and then let yall make a decision

Well, I cant get a real great look, but it looks like it can be fixed. It will definatlely take work, but it doesnt look like the wheel wells are pushed back real bad, just the front member is pretty screwed up. If it were me, I would buy it and fix it up. Not sure exactly what broke the windsheild though...the hood? or the impact?

Well, anything can be fixed...for a price. Whether or not its worth it is up to you :-/

I agree with everyone else, get an estimate and then decide what you want to do.

well he gave it to me for free...he needed the space in his garage for his supra... from what he told me....the hood broke the windshield and the he hit did a spin and its ass hit the eclipse's door so it took 2 impacts but the door isnt bad at all...anymore suggestions

i would say take it...its free...but fixing it? i dont know. if it was a turbo then I would be more willing to get it fixed but i dont know. thats cool he raced for slips and won a supra. what car was he racing in when he beat the supra?

he was racing his dads 87 turbo supra and his dad put alot of money in that car shyt i would take that car over the eclipse i got the video i might post it on here.... but back to the eclipse its in the garage righ now and i only got 2000 to my name what should i do?

doesnt look too bad....hows the motor sub frame(the black frame under the motor and tranny look..is it straight?)

but i do suggest u tow the car to a shop and have the Alignment checked(camber etc) to see if the framed is screwed up badly or not..before u start workin on ur car..

but to me it looks like u need a new Radiator,Front bar(dont know what its called, that black bent thing)Headlights(projectors cheaper than OEM)Fenders,Bumpers(again, considering used or ready to paint Aftermarket stuff instead of expensiv OEM stuff)..a new hood *again,u gotta compare Aftermarked to OEM..hell even a VIS carbon hood...)..but u gotta make some pics where we can see the whole car...

Okay what I would do. Pick it up from the junk yard ( tow it) . Start buying the body parts from the online sites taking precausions as not to get screwed c.o.d. escrow, put it togheter / have someone put it together paint it... and Sell it Make a reasonable profit. after a repair like that you wouldnt want to keep the car, there will always be sothing breaking or needing replaces. Well Good Luck. at least youll have some experience working on an eclipse.........

ok ok this is just my 2 Cents. if you really really reallly want to save this thing this is how i would look at it. There’s two major organs to this puppy, is the engine ok ? and is the tranny ok ? Either one of these is going to cost you a nice dime. So first step is to get the engine looked at to see if its even fixable, if not do what Defiant said and part that baby out, you should be able to get a few hundred in parts maybe even if not its all a profit for you so who cares but say the engine and tranny are fine. What i would do ? Find a car with blown motor. Buy it off guy for a few hundred or whatever, get maintence /repairs done to your engine. While its out get T-belt , water pump , hydro tensioner and all them fun maitence things fixed and drop it in the new car. This way to est. lets say that you got the blown motor car for 500.00 , then engine work say its 2,000 this is totally wild guess, then car wash 5.95 air freshener 1.00
your looking at getting this car for $2506.95. Now ask yourself is it worth going through all this is worth it to you. If yes good luck.

thank everyone for all the responses... just remember im a female and i dont know that much about cars so parting out a car i would have no idea how to because i dont know how to take off anything and the only reason i got the bumber and fender off was because of the tutorial on here... now i was thinking of repairing it then selling it i mean i got it for free i have 2 grand to blow on it and i have no car.... i will take more pictures and post them tomorrow after i fix it how much should i sell it for 97 GS Spyder with the rims i will take pictures of those too

thank yall very much

does any one knows or will give a est. how much a frame shop would charge
