The 2 lines that come out of the power steering reservoir and run down to the PS coolant line (in front of the radiator) . . . are those rubber lines *special*?

Reason I ask, is I have oil/atf fluid bleeding out of mine (and I just replaced them about a month ago). I could have sworn I bought fuel line as the replacement, but perhaps not. It's as if the oil inside is seeping out of the lines. Almost like the rubber is too porous

So . . . do I need to goto satan and get special lines? or will rubber fuel line work?

BTW . . . what size are those lines? :D

Just take that power steering line out. Rout one of the rubber hoses back to where it came from. Im not sure if fuel line will work, it should. However, I know PS fluid eats away paint very easily, so it is probably pretty corosive. That may be way its seeping through?

Wouldn't removing that line be a bad thing? I.E. -- the PS fluid might overheat? Or is it really not needed? I'd really hate to damage/break the PS rail b/c the ATF got too hot.

Gasoline hose is DIFFERENT than Power Steering hose - Get the right type hose at ANY real Auto Parts Store - You may want to go ahead & flush the P/S System & change to Synthetic P/S Fluid - You are going to make a hella mess & lose most of it anyway - Only takes about 2 quarts of Synthetic. If you've contaminated your Alternator you'll be buying one soon. I've never seen P/S Fluid eat paint - he's talking about Brake Fluid - which ALSO requires a different type of hose BTW...

Alright . . . guess I'm getting new hose . . .*again* :(

By the way . . . do you mean synthetic ATF or synthetic PS fluid? Because I do believe the 2g cars call for DEXRON III for use in the PS system.

I used Valvoline Syn P/S Fluid in my 1G but quite obviously use the correct Fluid for your 2G - Take ONE of the NEW lines to the cooler loose & point it toward a pan - Cycle the Tires lock to lock while adding Fluid till it clears up then button her up - Have some cleaner & rags handy! I installed the P/S Seal Kit before I did this as I had leaks at the Pump that killed my Alternator.

so . . . would removing the PS coolant line (metal tube that runs in front of radiator) be a bad thing / not recommended?

I wouldn't do it - but if I did I'd sure as hell run Synthetic - There are guys out there running Turbos with NO OIL COOLERS on Synthetic (& some crazies on Dino Oil I'm sure).

& Actually I think the P/S Fluid takes out the Voltage Regulator in the Alternator - which BTW can FRY your ECU.

Well reason I ask is I've hear ppl say that when they installed their FMICs, the instructions told them to remove/relocate the coolant line . . . So just trying to see if anyone knows if it's absolutely necessary. Guess they wouldn't have put it in there if it was worthless huh?

I live in CA (100+ degree summer) and have had it off for like 8 months with no problems. Look at the damn thing, its a straight line, no fins nothing. What kinda good is that gonna do for cooling. As far as the volume lost, it also made no difference.

I wouldnt worry about it. You wont even notice that it is gone.

the PS lines does some cooling, but not that great, but when you do take your dsm up to the windy mountain roads, w/o PS cooling, you'd feel your PS starts to get stiff on you, the fluid starts to seep out as it boils...but for daily drivers, w/o the cooling lines it should still be okay...

synthetic PS fluid? what's good? never realized they had such...

Eeer, my ps fluid is really really low, and I need to drive it like that to school tomorrow unless I can use this Dexron III/Mercon ATF I have here. I guess I'll go buy some Synthetic Dexron II/Mercon tomorrow...I'll get some good brand.
