Ok, as you all know, Ive been boosting 8 psi only for some reason, even after the exhaust upgrade. still 8 psi.

so today i unhooked the BCS and went for a drive, and carefully let it boost to 14 psi.

only thing is, even having 6 extra PSI the car did not feel any faster.
and it seemed to struggle for the extra psi.

my theory:

I have a boost leak, and in the usual 8 psi of boost, im actually boosting close to 14.

and when boosting to 14 with the bcs disengaged, i was getting close to 18 psi from the turbo, but it was working so hard, the air was HOT and i was knocking a pulling timing.

is this possible?

any ideas would be greatly appreciated., thanks
adam

Also, I replaced the BOV, intercooler pipes, upper and lower, and BCS from a known good tsi that boosts 15 psi.

Damn that sucks, May be a boost leak. . . Do you still have your bcs hooked up? Try getting rid of that guy if you do, if not check that BOV and all connections to it, I had the vaccum line fall off to my BOV once and I could only boost to 7 PSI.

Good Luck,

BoostedTalon

Its a aftermarket Faze guage.

I am in the process of swapping out the intake manifold seal.

the bov, intercooler pipes, and intercooler, have all been replaced wiht known good.

well, its all back together, and IDLE is the exact same, 1500 - 2500 surge.

didnt go for a drive yet, BUT

its sitting there running, and the oil cap is dreuling a bit of oil?????????

Why the hell would intake gasket swap make it dreul oil, when it had never done it before, and all i touched was the intake manifold.

explain that one experts!

I replaced a bad leaking intake manifold gasket a few days ago and it fixed a shitty rough rich idle, now runs smooth as silk but still have idle surge after changing every possible thing that controlls idle,,,anyway what I was going to say is even with my intake leak I was still boosting and holding boost just fine around 10/11 on my autolite boost gauge,, and today put a mbc on and o-my god what a differance.:D

well, it drives the same.
no faster, and idle is even alittle highter

but then again i did have the idle switch unplugged before, so ill unhook it again.

now, intake gasket, throttle body gasket, both interooler pipes , bov, all vac lines and intercooler have been rep[laced.

what else?

New Theory.

Knock Sensor,
Since the ECU will pull timing if Knock is Present. Is it possible for a Malfunctioning Knock Sensor to casue the ECU to modify timing under other circumstances?

like, idle, or boost.
any ideas?

just a suggestion, bad gas? a friend didn't tell me he was using 89 octane. when he did, the car ran alot better and revved past 5000rpm when it didn't before.

also try ECU maybe? just shooting out ideas.

try resetting the ecu. that might work as well.

did it run fine before? if so what changed?

Ohm out your ISC and see if it is still in spec (sorry, I cannot remember for the LIFE of me what spec is.)

As for your power loss, I'm assuming you've checked out the ignition system on the car as well? Check coils, plugs, wires if you have not.
