lifter noise and pinging

finally got my 1.8 to 2.0 turbo swap almost finished(still got to put turbo fuel pump in) was driving it around earlier today with no problems or any odd noises. couple hours later it starts to "ping" like low octane. the tank had about 10 gallons of 87 octane fuel from when the 1.8 was in it. so i bought 3 bottles of octane booster and dumped in it . didnt help any. i adjusted the cas and didnt help either. anything else i could do to eliminate it or what else could be causing it?

it also develped lifter noise, ticking. its not too bad just noticable now. anything i can do to cure that?

also it wont boost more than 9 psi could that be because of the n/t fuel pump?

I would say drain and fill with premium fuel. What weight oil are you using? Do you have a boost contoller?

im using new fresh 10w30. havent drove it with the new oil yet. im using a boost controller but no matter how i adjust it it dont seem to do anything. i figured 3 bottles of octane boost would cure the pinging. according to vfaq. it said either use fresh hi octane fuel or get octane booster. maby i didnt add enough since octane booster doesnt really add 3 pts(in my case the kind i bought said adds 3pts) of octane rating.

im figuring the boost problem is the fuel pump, because it gets bad fuel cut at 9 psi which could also be low grade fuel and a n/t fuel pump. im just waiting till its low on fuel b4 i change the pump so it dont all drain out when i take that bolt out of the bottom of the tank.

I would put premium fuel in your car.
Upgrade that fuelpump also. I wouldnt be pushing high boost limits if you are with a stock 1.8 fuelsystem still on the car.

From my experience octane booster doesn't do SHIT you need the real thing. Can you get Sunoco Ultra 94? That is THE best gas IMO (love that shit and the sunoco refinerys are about 20 minutes from my house so its cheaper then other places)! Otherwise 93 should be fine. And change that fuel pump! Good luck with the car!

if im real real lucky i can get 92 octane. i fixed my ticking prob. timing was off. it jumped today real bad it was knocking loud. thought i bent some valvs. but i reset the timing and now thats ok.
