I HAVE A 97 SPYDER N/T AND THE PROBLEM IS I GOT INTO A FENDER BENDER AND NOW THE CAR IS STUCK IN 1ST GEAR I CANT PULL IT OUT TO NEUTRAL SO THE CAR WONT CRANK THE CLUTCH HAS NO RESTRAINT IT GOES UP AND DOWN EASY SO IM GUESSING ITS THE CLUTCH...THE CLUTCH CUP WHERE U PUT THE FLUID IN HAS A CRACK IN IT SO ALL THE FLUID IS GONE....NE ONE KNOW WHERE I CAN JUST GET THE DAMN CUP THAT HOLDS THE FLUID FROM.... JUNKYARDS TRY TO SELL ME THE WHOLE MASTER CYLINDER THINGY.... ANOTHER QUESTION NE-ONE KNOWS GOOD BODY SHOPS IN THE HOUSTON AREA THAT DONT CHARGE A ARM AND A LEG

THANKS

The clutch prolly inst the reason why it wont pull out of 1st, if the engine isnt on you dont need to let the clutch up to change the gears cause nothing is moving. Just tell the junk yards you just want the clutch fuild reservoir and not the other stuff, other then that go to the dealer maybe or a parts shop i dont know if your gonna be able to just get the reservoir though.

You will not be able to get just the reservoir, Just replace the master it's not that hard and there pretty cheap. And as far as the transmision if your shifter moves all around freely and you can't feel it engaging, then you need to check out the shifter cables located directly on top of the transmision. There will be two cables one may have popped off durring the wreck.:dsm:

ok sorry for the caps... ive been driving my altima lately and now that i have enough money to work on the eclipse....just one question...when i do get the reservoir, put the clutch fluid in and pump the clutch..understand that im a female so my vocabulary about cars is small...LOL neways if the clutch starts pumping and the shifter still dont come out of 1st gear then what....do i need another trans.. the engine wasnt damaged or nothing the two wires on top of it i checked them and they were both connected

What baffles me is how you cracked the reservoir.

Exactly, if there is no engine damage, how does the reservior get cracked?

Heres a question, do you have any clutch pressure at all?

It sounds from the way she's describing it that she has no pressure at all. With a crack in the reservoir and no fluid her master cylinder is probably filled with air which would explain the problem. But how the hell do you crack the reservoir without getting into a serious accident?

That honestly sounds like you broke a linkage or a fork. I know when I broke my shift rail in my tranny it wouldn't shift past 3rd and if it did all you heard was the car clattering and the flywheel talking to the clutch. Can you MOVE the shifter at all or is it stuck to where you can't even Pull it with both hands back to neutral?

I was gonna say a shift fork til she said her resevior was cracked. But im stumped as to how that happens when the engine has no damage.

ok maybe it was a bigger fender bender but ive had people look at the car like my brothers and there car friends and they said the engine dont looked touched.....there was a big crack that i notice fluid was leaking from when they towed it to my garage....... there is no pressure on the clutch and even when i try 2 yank the shifter back to nuetral to release the front wheels it wont work... i know i might be getting on yall nerves but i dont want to trash the car if the engine is still good.... i will post pictures of the car tomorrow so you all can get an image of what i have to see everyday.... ive read in the forums theres a way to disengage <<< sorry dont know how to spell right now.....the clutch? will that help

it wouldnt have anything to do with the reservoir, because if the car is off you could put it wherever you wanted to, i know that because i had to fix my master cylinder once. you just wouldnt be able to put it anywhere while it was runnning

well if u have no clutch fluid i dont know if it would be such a good idea to actually start it.... but when its in first if you turn it over, and it jumps that should be a sign that it in fact would run.... i think?? anyone else

You can try turning it over in gear, but it won't start without the clutch being pushed in, but bready to switch it off, because it willtry to drive. It might be a good idea to lift the front tires off the ground before doing this. Also, if you replace the master cylinder, it will need to be bled which can be a pain, but the shifter should still move freelyif the engine id not running, check the linkage cables.:dsm:
