Hey i was on the freeway with the cruise on at about 85 when my shifter popped out of 5th gear. Everytime i put it back in it would pop right back out. It seemed to do ok through the city but as soon as i get the rpms up a little bit it pops out. Anybody know what causes this? How to fix it? Thanks
Richie

relatively common problem. the nut in your transmission that holds 5th gear in place likely is starting to back off. you need to take the endcase of the trannd off (obviously after draining all the fluid on level ground) and impact that bi*** on there (32mm socket i believe)

yea i got the same problem in my 90tsi. when im off throttle it will stay in gear but when i hit the gas it will jerk out then when i lay off the gas it will go back then if i hit it again it will compleetly pop out. the clutch was done about 45K ago. i just got the car and im still learning.

I am having the same problem on my '95 2G. I keep seeing everybody reference the 1G website for instructions. Any help for 2G's. Is it quite similar. I am searching through my Chilton's 8415 manual right now and can't seem to find any diagrams with the nuts referred to for the 1G on the website. Can anybody please provide some more info for the 2G? If anybody has a Chilton's manual, could you please provide page number etc... for details on repair?
