I just got a 1997 Eclipse GSX and it just doesnt accellerate. You can hear the turbo boosting but it sounds like the boost is blowing outside the car. The blow off valve is a first gen blow off valve. Any thoughts towards what would be the problem???

make a leak tester, it'll be great to have in the future and a great quick way to see if its something dumb like a hard to find leak before you spend money :thumb: IC leak tester

But yea, i'd bet a boost leak first, double check everything as Way2real316 suggested. good luck

ok, i checked it all out, its not a boost leak, we r thinking its a computer problem cause what is happening is its burning rich, but the boost is pushing 12psi, we think the engine is pushing more fuel then its sapposed to, we think its the ecu, anyone ever had these problems???

It would help if you listed your mods. If you know its boosting at 12psi then im guessing you have a boost gauge give as a list of your mods and when did this problem start to happen?

I agree, make a leak tester and check for loose hose clamps.

Also, check to make sure the BOV is not stuck open. This happened to me once with my TurboXS BOV and I had similar symptoms (running rich, black smoke, no acceleration, and a loud whooshing sound). If this is the case, clean the BOV and give 'er a lil WD-40 for good measure.

i have a first gen bov and thats the only mod on the car. The boost gauge we pluged in to see just how much boost was going into the engine. Was your bov still going off when it was stuck open??? Mine goes off. Ill check to see if my bov might be the problem, but i he checked it. I got the car with these problems. We r trying to get another turbo eclipse ecu to try on and a mass air flow senser. I hope that will fix it. any more thoughts guys to what else might make this car start working right?

Xcell, did you fix your boost problem? I have the same exact problem as yours. I thought it was the BOV so I got a brand new 1g bov and it still make the same sound like the bov is leaking but I can hear it blowing off also. I did a boost leak test and found no major leak. I replaced the ECU also because it felt like the car was pulling time. My STOCK base fuel pressure is high though around 40 psi with the vacuum tube attach. I do have black puff of smoke when the turbo kicks in. Can running rich cause the ECU to pulling time? HELP!

actually i did fix the problem, i was loosing boost from my intercooler piping. i got the greddy upper/lower intercooler piping and the greddy type s bov and it works great, now i have a different problem, im hitting 20 pounds of boost and trying to figure out what it may be. but the bigest problem was on the joint to the intercooler, it was loose, and im sure the rest of the piping was crap anyways, i put on the upper intercooler first and bov and drove it, it drove strong, then the lower intercooler pipe, drove even better:dsm:

Xcell, I thought that you did a boost leak test and you couldn't find any leaks. How did you find out that it was your intercooler pipings that was leaking? Thanks for replying.

I never did the boost leak test, i just ordered those parts cause i would need then later down the road anyways. Are you burnning rich???

I think I'm running rich because my base fule pressure is at 40 psi with the vacuum attach. I did the boost leak test again for the 10th time and found someting strange by blocking different route. I pressure test from the air inlet side of the compressor housing of the turbo and blocked off the upper intercooler pipe before the bov. My guess is that the air should hold rock solid between these 2 points since there is no hose attach to these points. I was WRONG because I can here air escaping form the valve cover vent tube which means to me that some how, the valve cover is getting pressurize. How can this happen? Is this normal?
