Shifting Problems

Im having alot of trouble shifting lately,It grinds alot.The clutch petal has no resistance most of the time.Sometimes I almost give myself a hemroid(sp?) just trying to shift it into gear.I hear it could be a master cylinder??What does it sound like to you?Thanks for any help you could give
