My old man bought a 97 gst

So my dad just bought a 97 GST with a frankenstein motor.....he only paid $4,000. The motor was built 6,000 miles ago. Mods that I know of currently are full 3" HKS exhaust, Megan 3 way adjustable suspension, t3/t4 turbo, Apexi boost and air flow controller, HKS blow off valve, ACT clutch, new pressure plate and flywheel. Guy says he built the motor with ARP head studs also. Says the car is running on 18psi and pushing 300hp. What do you guys think of the deal my dad got......My dad's not really into DSM's so I don't understand why he bought. I've got the feeling it's a birthday present when I turn 27 . Looks like a decent 2g, however i didnt see any tuning mods so 300hp is hard to believe on 18lbs....
