In brief format, I am in need of someone who knows how to tune a DSM with Megasquirt II....my mechanic/friend recently came upon some bad circumstances and has A) no time to come finish the tuning and b) no means to drive here to do the aforementioned...

So I am hoping someone on here is familiar enough with MS to do this for me? I am completely oblivious to this so it wouldn't do much good to try and walk me through how to do it....of course I'm not expecting anyone to do this for free, just let me know if you or anyone you know is interested, PLEASE! thanks... oh guess it would help if I said where I'm at, LOL....Lake Stevens/Marysville area....

Awesome to hear some responses!! I would have to get it towed to Olympia to get that done but it's always a possibility at this point....and ya JNperformance please do let me know what your friend has to offer on this despite the travel distance!

Just scheduled a dyno tune on Friday, May 8th...

still not done...didn't even get to my car till Monday night - only to find the Megatune software on the laptop we left with them was actually different from the software we had on the other laptop that was used to set everything up so they spent that evening finding the proper software then Tuesday I didn't hear from them then Wednesday they said they spent 2 hours and couldn't figure out how to even start the engine...so my mechanic and I drove the 120 miles down there and got it started in under 3 mins....only to have them say something along the lines of "You need a raw feed to the cam angle sensor or else its not gonna run well. We can make this work but it'll be like a bandaid." THey said something along the lines of customizing a "trigger-wheel" to make the stock cam angle sensor usable? I donno the details other than my mechanic tapped into the RPM sensor for a filtered feed of the cam angle sensor but they don't seem to think that is a good way to go long-term....

Thoughts?

I saw the car down there when I was tuning my 1g.

Brian is a solid guy. :thumb:
haha sweet, too bad it's still putting up all the fight it can to NOT DRIVE :ohdamn: Looking for a form of Spark Control to work with Megasquirt right now...

I don't know what a cas's is??? But no my MSII doesn't have spark control as it turns out....do you know if an MSD Ignition control would mate with Megasquirt to prove a functional engine management team?

ImportWarrior is pretty good with the MS, he pretty well knows his way around the darn thing, he got me in the right direction with my MS.

And, I've got MS and MSD DIS-2 setup, just not connected to anything yet.

In 4G63-land, a CAS is a cam position sensor. You can't use a 4G63 1G CAS on a 420A. I don't think he realized you were talking about a 420A.

Do NOT get the MSD ignition and try to mate it to Megasquirt. My good friend BigRand tried doing that for a while and it sucked horribly. No on the fly changes or anything. My recommendation would be to get the spark add-on for your Megasquirt and be done with it.

Hmm, Weird, it seems to work great for MANY racers from muscle cars, to imports.

MS II has ignition tables. MegaSquirt-II - Advanced Electronic Fuel Injection Computer by Bowling & Grippo ©2005. Unless your confused by board revisions.

What does a 420A use for engine position. Cam / Crank all in one like a 1g or separate like a 2g.

And MSD is hit n miss, Had a few 6a boxes that were great and a pile of them that were bad. Cheap to have fixed though, not sure what goes bad.

Might want to hit the MS forums, and see what your missing.

The MSD boxes work well for a lot of cars and work on the 420A, but the MSD has its shortfalls. No on-the-fly tuning, etc. as I've mentioned. There is no reason to ever run the MSD when running Megasquirt on a 420A. Megasquirt's spark system works very well and doesn't have the issues that the MSD does.

Again to the OP, if your Megasquirt setup doesn't have the spark add-on, get it and be done with it and have a full tuning solution in one system.

I dunno if I'll run my DIS-2 or just let the MS-II handle it. I bought my MS-II from RSAutoSport, which was built ready for the 420a neon... I sent it to Paul at SymTech labs who modified it to work with my 4g64 build... I got a really good deal on it already built (cheaper than the DIY kit) so I couldn't pass it up.

Brian Macy at Horsepower Connection in Olympia knows MegaSquirt very well and also has a Dyno Dynamics dyno that he could tune it on. He uses MegaSquirt on his 2G GS-T and tuned my friend's turbo 420A a while back.

Ok. Brian at Horsepower Connection seems to be full of *%&$&:barf:. I am the one who spent the time to go down there for Kevox to be BS'ed about things. Brian even called me about a week later cause he couldnt get the car started again. We explained to him that we did not have a cranking signal. He came up with some wild idea of modifiying the CAM sensor that sounded backyard-ish. Not really trying to cut him down as a person but Kevox spent alot of money for no results. Brian said I cant help you cause I dont know what you have set up. I told brian everything and even told him I could list everything done cause I was the one who did it all.

The 420A uses both signals (damn Dogde/Chrystler) as spark control, but MegaSquirt only needs one.

The MS forums are not that complete with info. Alot of talk about wiring the board and resisitor problems and no starts. Not on much else for the 420A wiring to the engine. I was hoping I could find a way to use the stock 4G63 ignitor. I remember seeing a thread about it but I searched for it and did not find it. I would appriciate anyones help on that.

yes Just as the haha "instructions" said. He sent it in to get spark control installed and just got it back. But I havent heard from him for a bit. so i will update when i can
