We are talking about a channel that is devoted to speed. I think they do a good job of covering al the racing events. I know where we are there are another 200+ channels to choose from if you don’t like it change the channel. I also know when they do all 24 hours of lemans I can only take about 30 min before I have to switch to something else.

Maybe they should come out with a channel for every sport, racing event to every kind of music so people will crying about stupid crap and just change the channel. It was easy enough for you to click onto speed it should be easy enough to click to something else.

I wish I could change the channel and find WRC, BTCC, ELMS, and other forms of sports car racing that only SPEED Channel would cover (that is, if they weren't playing some 5-year old NASCAR race replay or some NASCAR talk show). But those channels don't exist.

None of us have a problem with changing the channel when we don't like it. I only watch SPEED via Tivo these days anyway. The problem is there is plenty of racing SPEED does not cover because of the excessive NASCAR programming that takes up the majority of their schedule. The whole idea here is to try and get SPEED to cover more racing that is being missed due to the excessive NASCAR programming.

Unfortunately it's a losing battle with SPEED every since Fox bought them out. If I ever came into some big money I'd make a big impact on the racing media market, believe me. It's one of my big goals in life. SPEED can have NASCAR - I'd make sure all other sports car racing fans found the coverage they don't get on SPEED.

I agree with you Ludachris, they do show a lot of NASCAR but I'd rather watch that then bob sledding and I don’t need to be watching some 5 year old race. I also wish there were more racing channels that showed WRC and all that good stuff. I have been to a rally and those are a blast. Maybe instead of a petition to get rid of NASCAR off speed, there was something that went with it like, less NASCAR and more WRC, BTCC and ELMS then submit that over to speed. Maybe we can get a DSM channel and discuss 6 bolt swaps, awd conversions and then 4g63 hybrids for the more advanced guys. With all the music channels that are out there, there can be a few more car/racing channels.

i'm somewhat a NASCAR fan, but like everyone else has been saying this is America, showing more of other racing would be like fox sports, ect showing more soccer instead of football, it's all about the ratings, they would be stupid to show other things. I think speed does a preety good job, they could do better i guess.

I have many issues with networks buying cable channels, and the cross-whoring that goes on. But the media business in this country -sorry, on this planet is so hideously polluted that it's a joke. And that's without the political angles involved.
I'm just a bit encouraged to see F1 coverage broadening a bit on SPEED, although I can feel my teeth cracking when they have to do the FOX broadcasts out-of-time, and the announcers have to explain such things as why the tires are round. You'd never hear Hobbs telling the world that someone's a fäg paper's width away from the wall on network broadcasts. Because we live in a free country, you know.
And the Versus coverage of the Tour de France is still some of the best sports TV anywhere.

You know what, I wouldn't mind NASCAR so much on SPEED if they just stuck to showing the actual races and maybe had a NASCAR news program. But they have pre-race shows, post-race shows, news, talk shows, shows about old NASCAR races, and other NASCAR programming that goes way beyond just the races. There is very little if any attention given to any other forms of racing that is going on all over the world and plenty of it here in the US. I think F1 (the largest auto racing series in the world) was just finally given a spot for a F1 news slot once a month.

And when NASCAR isn't on I get to watch 200 reruns of Pinks, bobsledding, Unique Whips, Horspower with Joe and Mike's goofy commentary, or some network executive's idea of a crappy "tuner" show full of NOPI crap cars and some ditsy HIN model doing a horrible job at hosting the show... SPEED can definitely do better with their programming - much better.

I think the best non-NASCAR show they have is the Xtreme 4x4 show, and I'm not even into trucks.

I can't wait until the internet starts hosting a lot more of the video feeds that you can't find on TV. The networks will be fighting that tooth and nail I'm sure but it's coming. And we'll all have a lot more choices when it comes to the race programming "we" want, not what corporate America decides to show us because it makes them more money.

I second that! Here's the mass mailer that NASA sent out about it for those not in the loop.

Dear NASA Fan,

You are receiving this email because your email address is in NASA’s national database. We very rarely email everyone in the database on a national level, but there is some very important news.

A new all-racing network channel is about to launch in 2008. It will feature many forms of racing. NASA will have at least 10 hours of 1st-run programming (plus reruns) during 2008. This means that you and/ or your race could be shown on this network (even HPDE will be featured!).

However, new networks such as this need help to show that the service provider would gain subscribers. Please take 30 seconds to clink on the link found on this page http://www.theracingnetwork.com, and enter your email address. There is no obligation; this is merely help to get this network on the air. Your email address will not be sold or given out.

I hope you can help; and thank you for the understanding regarding this rare emailing. This will not be a regular thing.

Sincerely,
Jerry Kunzman

Forget wasting time trying to get SPEED to change their programming. Support groups who will give us the programming we want. I entered my email address to help support their efforts.

I hate NASCAR with a passion. I think the only solution to this would be for Speed to open an ENTIRE channel for only NASCAR and NASCAR related things, and then the original channel could be for more interesting things. Like road racing or F1 or WRC or other things non-Nascar.

Funniest thing I have read about Nascar in a while:

(Being said to someone from the South in a comic strip)
"NASCAR is a yankee conspiracy to keep you all placated so the South wont rise again."

Why not try to get a whole bunch of people to start a TV channel for the other Race Car Sports. I know there are other channels that play football as well. Some B budget stations.... I think I saw one call CSS last time I was in America.... Lucky for me I have many options when it comes to motor sports here.

Opps....Luda, posted what I was talking about. So instead of petitioning get together and help out the new network. That is how Speed Channel got big.

Has someone already brought up the fact that Speed is a business, they need money to survive and grow. Nascar= money. If they show Nascar programs then it is easier to get sponsor money from other companies such as Home Depot, Chevy, etc... That equals a lot of money.

So in a way, if there was no Nascar on Speed, then we could kiss F1, AMA, ALMS, WSBK, etc all good bye.

I've just accepted the fact that Speed Channel can and will show Nascar. Honestly, it doesn't bother me that much. I just Tivo the shows I like... Formula 1, Pinks All Out (yes, I admit to liking Pinks), ALMS, etc. and ignore the rest of their programming.

Less NASCAR and more WRC and F1. Signing that petition so fast, and passing it along. Boo Nascar.

I say ditch the NASCAR ReRuns for actual racing events, such as WRC, IRL and other cool events. I love NASCAR, but its overrated in my opinion. Some of the new drivers are cute in girls eyes so it has the attraction of women.. Most of the women that like NASCAR, are only there for the drivers. Not the actual racing. My mom is this way. She only got into NASCAR so she can root for the cute drivers. I miss WRC, IRL, MotorTrend TV and all the others. I say all they should do, Is on Saturdays and Sundays at the schedualed times, air the actual NASCAR Events. After that, leave it alone, go onto the next event. I'd rather watch IRL, WRC and TOCA racing then NASCAR. Its become too much like football, and I hate football.
