Okay so I finally found my gsx. 98 black on gray. 92k. Only have intake act stage 1 clutch. Short shifter. And high flow cat. I need a bov. Looking for a greddy type s. Or hks ssqv. If anyones selling one let me know. Also looking for a decent aftermarket/ louder exhaust. Stock sucks. Lol. I want to upgrade the turbo. But I need help on that. What turbo should I move up to and along with turbo what els would I need to upgrade? Let me know thought. If you wan to be an as$ keep the comments to yourself pls. I'm a noob I know.

How's the maintenance history on it? All those mods won't mean anything if your timing belt snaps and takes out your head.

MAINTENANCE- Tbelt first.

Basics- engine management/ecmlink (no real gains until later, but will help you along the way), injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump, wide band, 14b or even a 16g,(depending on how fast you want to go), front mount/supra sidemount, turbo back. Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?

Or are you just in it for the nice sounds these cars make?

Oilchanged every 3k I believe. Everything should be good but of course I will be changing the oil and doing a tune up and getting it inspected for sure as I always do when I buy a new car.

Take it to full function, KBR, or redzone....In that order if you want good advice. The gas stations on the corners will do you more harm than good.

I may have an APEX 3" downpipe and full exhaust for sale. Gotta pick it up at a friends house if you are interested!

I have a used 14b that I'm willing to part with, unknown mileage though, came with the vehicle when I bought it. Ran great and very little shaft play.

am i looking for any damage on the tbelt?. how big injectors should i go? would a 14b be a good upgrade? im not trying to be super fast and the furious. i do a little street racing here and there in brentwood but i dont want to be too slow either. im thinking maybe low 13s? and i also want my car to sound good too tho

when i go to kbr or any of those you mean for them to check the car out and what not right?

how much for the downpipe/ exhaust

and house much for the 14b. ?

^ Listen to this man, he knows what he's talking about.

It's rare for veteran DSMers to help newbies these days, esp the ones who run 10s LOL, so when they do, you listen.

Thanks guys, but I just really want to point the newbies in the right direction, such as... away from body kits, altezza tail lights, and loud exhaust with no power to back it up!

As well as getting things in order to enjoy a wonderful car.

Low 13s shouldnt be a problem. If you want to do it on E85, that makes it easier on your goal AND your wallet. With V3 you can switch between maps (91 octance and E85) on the fly.

When you take it to a shop, you should just have them replace the balance shaft belt, t belt, pulleys, and if you can afford it the water pump too. Go to partsdinosaur.com and get all the parts. I am really fond of his tbelt. It looks, feels and even smells just like the blue greddy one I bought. I wouldn't be surprised if greddy gets the kevlar ones from the same source and just puts the blue coating on the outside. Have I ran it? Yes. Would I trust it to 60k? no, I would change it at 40K just incase. But thats on my car where I dont have a timing cover, p/s,a/c, etc.,

If the previous owner doesn't have reciepts of when the tbelt job was done, CHANGE IT. Bottom line is, it could be ready to fail on you. Don't put yourself in the position where you start hating DSMs because you skipped out on maintenance.

Change the rear diff oil, tcase oil, and transmission oil. You dont have to go super fancy on the rear diff or tcase. On the transmission some name brand hi performance stuff will do you fine.

Engine oil-I prefer shell rotella diesel oil. Wix, mobile 1, K&N OEM oil filters if you don't change your oil at the 3000 mile marker every time.

Anywho, FullFunction would be my first choice for a tbelt job, then KBR, then redzone. Mainly because these shops do stuff like this ALL THE TIME on modified cars. Prices will vary, as well as turnaround time. Craftsmanship and customer service will vary as well, but you will be satisfied on the work done regardless of where you go.

trust me. body kits, altezza lights. :nono: the lights are horrible idk why people put those on their cars. and as far as body kits the stocl 98 is good enough for me all i need to do is drop my car about 2 inches maybe 1.5 and itll be clean.

but i never realized how little i knew about these cars. LOL what the heck is a e85

but so im guessing tbelt is a major thing with these cars? im going to look into that asap.

no recipts, gotta make sure everything is up to date on it.

Looks like its time for you to spend your days doing homework on the DSM forums :hellyeah:

DSMTalk has a good amount of archived info, this site has come a long way on the tech side of things. I really like some of the tech articles as they are nicely detailed with pics and info. Yes, I have questions and need to verify certain things before proceeding too ;)

You might have to get fancy with some words on the searches over time. For instance, get used to WOT, FPR, BOV, Link, AWD, etc,. You might have to type certain abbreviations in your searches to get the right results.

If you come up with certain issues and decide to start posting "n00b h3r3, need he7p" threads, they better be good questions, with detailed accounts of what you are asking. Odds are they will be looked over and get you even more frustrated when you have 40 views and no responses. There are people waaaaaayyy more advanced on certain things and chances are they have the right answer(s), but will just back out of the topic you posted as its been :beatentodeath: . Or you will get the "SEARCH THE FORUMS" responses, and the flame of death. That will just irritate you, and others.

Silence is golden, but searches are worth ones weight in gold. :thumb:
