What can cause of high RPM but car does not accelerate? is it my transmission slipping? it is only happening when the weather is really hot. i have new clutch installed in my car.

the pedal feels normal.. its just when the weather is really hot like 90 and when i step on the gas to pass someone on the freeway the rpm shoots up really high up to 5k but the car is not accelerating at all. oh and my car has 160k mileage on it.

You just installed a new clutch and had the flywheel replaced/resurfaced and or stepped properly? OR you had the clutch put in over a year ago and now its slipping? If its revving to 5k its the clutch not engaging properly or the clutch material is gone.

have u checked so see if your getting oil on the plate from the rear main seal? if the rear main leaks it could cause it to slip

could be a worn motor mount or tranny mount. this could cause an uneven alignment between the engine from clutch to flywheel. and especially when it's hot. just my opinion.

sounds like it's slipping to me. Did you install a new clutch/pressure plate/flywheel? of did you just replace the clutch/pressure plate with your old flywheel? or maybe you put in a new used clutch/pp and kept your old flywheel?

haha.
