Looking for suggestions on new car alarm systems. I'm interested in the 2-way remote paging and the remote start feature. Is there something I need to be aware of for the remote start in terms of safety? Any recommendations on good car alarm shop in or near SF?

There's a great shop in SF called Mach III. Give them a call, talk to Ray or Henry. They've done my alarms and stuff for a long time.

Well I would personally suggest a 2 way alarm with shock sensors, remote start and a tilt sensor for if the car is jacked up. Also you can get a hood pin, so that if they try to pry your hood open, the alarm will go off as well. Viper would be my choice in an alarm system. Make sure that if you do get remote start on a stick (Assuming you have a 5 spd) that they wire in a neutral safety switch so that the car won't remote start unless it is in neutral and with the park brake up.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Also I forgot to add, you should also think about getting another siren put inside the car just in case so that if they get to your hood and cut your hood siren, the 2nd one will still make noise. I also would suggest a proximity sensor as well so that a warning chirp goes off if you get too close to the car. People will probably say that would be overkill and annoying, but the extra stuff is good for deterring theives.

I mean if they really want what they are after, they'll get it but it's always nice to try to protect your stuff you know.

Good luck

Thanks for the replies! I've personally had bad experience with Mach III, so I won't be going back to them. I've been trying to check on some reviews on alarm systems. How much did you guys pay for your alarm systems and what features do you guys have?

I have Compustar. I don't remember which model exactly but it was about $400 installed. It does have the remote start, pager, etc. So far no issues/problems.

Here is the alarm that I personally have

Viper - Security with Remote Start - Viper 5900

Now I was looking on the site and you can also purchase a GPS tracking system that will track your vehicle if it ever gets stolen.

I got my alarm installed at Pacific Stereo in Fremont if that helps. They charged me $300 with remote start and 2 way pager alarm installed with door actuators as well for the door locks.

If convinience is a factor, you could try this as well

CAR Alarm installation/alarm+2 remote $140 also pageralarm power door

Good luck and hope you find what you're looking for.
