What happened to the meets? I havent heard of a meet in like a month. We need to get another Bay Area meet going. Is everyone busy or just lazy? Does anyone have meets?

When is the Mt. Hamilton cruise going down?

Hey man, you missed the cruise at Redwood City last time! And I think Ronnel tried to do a last minute karting session... I think we all need to make a set decision on what we are going to do and when. When most people are aware of it and think they can make it, that is probably the time when people will start generating interest.

So does anybody want to do anything?

I'm sure the guys who check this part of the forum read the events posted (i.e. that Sept 17 idea, the karting, etc.), but maybe we need to plan ahead even earlier (like a couple of weeks earlier) so it won't be too late for people to join us.

I also think maybe the guys in here really don't know each other that much to get together and meet. We should though, I mean, we are all enthusiasts, right? And with the few meets I've been to, I've always managed to see some familiar faces as well as meeting new people.

I think he means another event. That Redwood City one was tight.

Yea it was, even with that stupid foolio at the parking lot. And I THOUGHT we were going to have a karting meet sometime soon...I'm waiting oh so patiently... :D

That guy asked me for your number, but I told him you weren't interested. Should I have said that?

 You told him what?! I will never meet a man like him  HAHA, I mean, I'm a boy remember, I don't swing that way... :shhh:

Okay but seriously, when are we going to have another meet? My car is actually running, no more running out the day before to fix it, pass smog and get it registered, no more my suspension shot threw my trunk I might not make it, other than my camber needing to be fixed (so if anyone has any ideas other than cutting the control arms, please let me know), I AM READY FOR THE NEXT MEET!!! Yep yep, and as usual there are a lot of people reading this post, and I know only about 10 if we're lucky will show up, but everytime I suggest something it gets thrown out the window, sooo, someone put something together please. :D

Ok let's get it started. I am throwing an idea for a date. Let's say Saturday, OCTOBER 15th, which gives us 3 weeks to plan the what, where and other questions. Is this good for most people? Remember just an idea.

I'm always cool with just meeting and getting something to eat but if anyone has any ideas on actually doing something like a grage day or karting or whatever, they are wlecome.

So come on let's get this next meet started now.

Another thing I have to add in is that, I think, we should feel free to invite other people and cars, DSM or not. It would make our meets more interesting, I think.

Hey Thomas, I'm sure it'll probably take us three weeks just to determine what to do LOL .

Really guys, what is there to do? The Redwood City cruise was cool, and even though it was labeled as a cruise, we still did the "everybody open there hoods and see what we all have" thing in a parking lot (And of course, we did this for each and every car, which is cool with me, I like that kind of stuff). It will be kind of repetitive though if it's the same people going to the meets! We need variety!

Who in the Bay Area actually contemplates on going to the meets? I've looked through the previous threads to see who actually puts some input (now I'm not calling you guys out or saying I even know most of you, but I just want to generate some sort of listing):

RedTurboEclipse
Combat Wombat
DSM GSX4life
EclipseGrindin
90REKTsi
dsm408
EnticivEclipse
98EclipseRS
2GenTsi
4G64T
eclipse m98
intelectualism
Jebus[tuning]
Yu Gst
MyBlack94GST
al1dere
Module Unknown
unlmtdndeavor
Dwnshft
jwt-1gnt

That's already a pretty good list of people I've seen who post, and I'm sure there are more of you guys out there. Let's try to organize! I usually try to pm guys to see if they are interested in something.

Let's hear some opinions! Is it the event, the date, or the place that makes people not want to go? Let's try to narrow things down so more people will want to go. I don't see why this can't happen when other enthusiasts are able to pull of the same thing with a large (or at least average) attendance.

And one more thing, if money is an issue let's try to plan something where we don't have to spend so much (cheap place to eat, just getting gas for a cruise, any other ideas, etc..)

the spot where eclipse grindin mentioned would be fun to cruise. its right by my house :p go-karting would also be fun, bbq w/e. i think mt hamilton leads up to a park, not sure if they have a bbq area though

I don't know what anyone else's deal is, but the reason I don't show up to some meets is because I have my daughter on weekends. Usually every other weekend, sometimes more. If a meet falls on one of those dates, don't expect to see me. If it doesn't, i'll be there. Simple as that.

The only people that ever seemed to be able to put something together and actually get people to show from this site were ludachris (who recently moved out of state) and 98EclipseRS who I know has plenty of other things keeping him busy these days. So I don't expect much to happen any time soon as far as a large event any time soon.

Karting is fun and i'm always down for that as long as I can make the date (see schedule restrictions above). Of course as soon as this happens you get people crying out, "i'm broke!" so this deters others from coming thinking not many, or no one will show so why bother... It's happened before. It's understandable that some can't afford it, but if you want to get together with other dsm'ers why not just come hang out watch the races if you can't afford it, chat, hang out after, etc. Not everyone needs to spend money.

Same thing happens with cruises. As soon as one is mentioned you get people crying out, "my car is down" or "if i can get this done or that done by this date i'll be there." Again, understandable, but no one wants to commit to anything and that's the problem. So your dsm may be down, someone has to have a running dsm, catch a ride with someone else! I know some of you guys know each other.

This thread was originally started by someone looking for "Bay area meets." I posted up an option which was quickly followed by a response like "I think he means another event." Well what the hell do you guys want? Read that thread, check out the forum you'll find a link to in that thread. It will get things started and allow you guys to meet plenty of local people that meet EVERY saturday night. From there you would find that there are also plenty of meets that go on besides the saturday night meets. Everything ranging from trips to the track, car shows, meets at Speed Merchant, Mod days (in fact, we just had one this past weekend with a nice turnout and got a lot done). If you want to meet a group of cool people that are actually active, there you go! Of course, it's not a dsm only thing though. In fact, dsm's are a minority in the group, but everyone is cool, like's their cars, get along well, hang out and have a good time. Is that not what people are looking for? So, if anyone is interested, the door is open. Check out the forum, introduce yourself, maybe even show up for a meet. ...i'll be out there again this saturday.

This is the last you'll hear from me in this section of this board as i've just about all but given up hope of getting a group of more than 2 people to do anything at once from here. Opinions? There ya go. If i pissed anyone off... ROFL

k, thx, bye.

I'd love to go to meets, but after nuking my work schedule to get July 16th off and making the one-way 150-mile drive across Bay Area oxcart paths with no air conditioning to find no one at Stinson Beach, it's going to take a helluva draw to get me to try it again.
It seems like everyone just has too much shit going on anymore to be able to make time for fun.

Damn, Module Unknown, makes me wanna give up hope  . I'll check out the forum and maybe I'll attend one of those meets depending on my work schedual.

So, John wanna TRY and get something started in another thread?

Hey, I asked for opinions, good or bad, and I appreciate the honesty. I'm pretty sure everybody is probably busy doing something else at the time of a meet/event.

I'll be honest, for me, it's hard to do things on a weekday let alone a weekend unless it is planned early enough for me to change my work schedule. And I already know I can't push my car to the limit (i.e. a spirited cruise) because I really don't have the funds or the time to fix my car if it is down.

How does everybody else feel? Let's hear it, good or bad, so we know what's going on with everybody.

Don't be afraid to tell us what you think! (Like if the meeting place or the event is a bad idea or a bad location, etc...)

I still think that if we all know everybody's opinions, there is still hope for a meet to go down, for ALL Bay Area DSMers, not just the South Bay.

I'd actually be down to meet some other DSM guys. I live in the east bay so as long as its not too far from there(like 20+miles from hayward I'd be down to meet up. I went to the ProStreet BBQ but didnt see any DSMers there...I was in my camaro though. I finally got my talon running and will get it insured today so I'm ok to drive it.

Yes! :thumb: We are gaining interest! Okay so we know that we need to plan this meet way ahead of time so people can adjust their work schedule. Another we know is that we got to have it so that everyone will be able to get there. Also, have it so it's not too expensive like cruises (gas money/braking parts), food, events, etc.

I say we plan something to do first and then set a date for it. What does everyone feel like doing? Throw out some opinions guys and we can see what works from there. I'm gonna start throwing ideas out so we can all start thinking. How about a BBQ, if the weather agrees? Garage day is also a good idea but I'm bias becuase I'm getting a whole bunch of parts in a couple weeks. We can go camping LOL . Just an idea. Karting is always an option but as stated above by Module Unknown people will say their too broke for that. Maybe we can get a shop to sponsor a meet and have a meet there?

It's kinda sad how we can get a meet together. Every other place can get a meet together with a great turn out every week or every other week or even multiple times a week but why can't we?

And yet again I will offer my house as a place to meet although my plan always tends to backfire. Every meet that I've gone to, everyone ends up standing in front of someones engine and talking...the few people that have been to my house can agree that there is plenty of space to park their cars, i've actually pushed my 2 parts cars into the garage and can park my camaro down the street to make more space. I can fit 6 cars on the driveway and double park cars accross the street. We can all just pitch in and make a costco run for food and drinks, I think its $10 for a pack of 15 hamburger patties and $2.00 for buns, and whatever to drink. So we are talking extreamly cheap for those, including me looking to save money.

For those not wanting to drive out far away from home, I don't live as far as people make it out to be, last weekend I was out in San Leandro and Hayward at prostreet (after an evo meet) and made it home in less than 30 minutes, same goes for driving from san francisco, its probably 45 minutes and less than an hour from santa cruz, so you get my jist. I live off of railroad ave in pittsburg, off of highway 4.

So there is my thought on the idea, but of course if there is a more convienient location for everyone else, I will be more than happy to join over there. Oh and maybe as an incentive, I will be getting a car lift installed into my garage as soon as I can find a truck and strong people to help me out...but a garage day might be a good thing to do as well. And of course I have a 62" tv/ps2/foosball table/pool table for those looking to hang out as well other than just car talk.

And just like everyone else who was commenting, planning in advance is everything, because my lazy ass finally got a job...with everyone complaining about not having meets, its hard to believe that we can't put one together...

I was at the NorCalEvo meet at prostreet.

Anyways, thanks for offering your house as a meet spot. It sounds like a good idea and an alternative to that meet and pop hoods thing, which we can still do at someone's house. Anyone else have any ideas?

Can't blame that on us, you shoulda taken the initiative to get a phone number or something before driving 150 miles. We were there not an hour after you came and left, and it was a great meet.

No blame implied. I'd just figured I'd gotten there too late.

This is actually a good idea...I've been wanting to take my Camaro/Talon out to Sears Point er I mean infineon raceway. I haven't been there in years.
