how much does just a generic sytem cost retail? something like a 50 or a 75 shot

What are you looking to spend? You say you want a 50 or 75 shot? Well if you are going cheap you are gonna have to go dry. I suggest you save your money and motor and save for a decent wet kit. Nitrous is kinda like beer. Use it properly and a good brand and no hangover in the morning. Get a cheap kit and use it crazy and you car will have a permenant hangover. This is just MHO....

i don't think there are generic kits, but i've seen people make a nitrous kit themselves
