Well, sort of. The TB elbow was tapped, for water injection into the engine--not any type of intercooler spraying. Water injection does tend to cool the intake charge and increase density, but it also is one of the best anti-detonants known and greatly increases the knock threadhold with crappy gas and/or high boost levels. Water injection's benefits go way beyond the evaporative cooling they provide.
 
Water injection is a great system with the only drawbacks being weight, and complexity of setup since the car wasn't designed to have extra stuff injected in. Other than that, there is no drawback to it. Won't blow your engine (unless you flood it, of course), won't burn things out, etc. Great thing, I want it soon myself.
