Should there be any adjustment to base timing when running a 50hp shot of Nitrous

Hey guys just one question on timing when running nitrous ...im planning on using a 50HP shot and was wondering if any of u left the timing stock or adjusted the base timing on the engine before the use of nitrous and what kind of results i can expect with leaving the timing stock of retarding it a couple of degrees would help with power output...thanks guy any input will be appreciated. :D:D:talon::talon:

I'm fairly confident in saying that I think most agree to bump the base timing down to 2*. This seems to work well with the 50shot from most people I've heard of doing it.:thumb:

hey man thanks for the input ...and i guess u mean from the stock timing of 5-8* i would retard it to 2* and i leave it like this all the time or just when i go racing i adjust it then...:D:D:talon::talon:

Hey homie thanks for the great article on nitrous and timing ...i think i will set the timing back to 2* BTDC from the stock timing of 5* BTDC.. that article explained well how the retard timing affects the piston during combustion ...and that it helps and saves the lower part of the the engine (bearings , rods ,crank). :D:thumb::talon:

Hey man i pick up a MSD DIS-2 ignition box with timing retard trigger ...is this a good way to retard timing upon activation of nitrous and whats a good ratio or nitrous to timing retard...i have heard for every 50hp u retard 3-5 deg ... can i get your thoughts on this ...thanks man :D:thumb::talon:

Yeah, that MSD box should do the trick for you. Also, from what I've heard you do want to retard timing 3-5 degrees for a 50 shot.:D Let me know how it works out for ya.:)

Thanks man i think it should work out fine ...im not driving the car now as it is winter in quebec canada and im changing the clutch and upgrading a bunch of parts in the fuel system and interior so it will be ready for the spring ...the last thing is paint and the carbon hood purchase....:D:thumb:

Stock i/c, stock 6 bolt, hks exhaust cam, small 16g, 550cc Injecters, dsmlink, and only 3 degrees of total timing retarded from 4k on to redline. On race gas (now vp import). With a 175 shot from a single fogger. It's not my car, but I tuned it and drive it from time to time. It's not what you do, but how you do it.. Timing will hurt a motor, but take to much and power will suffer. Just some advice, I wouldn't take away timing but see if you may be able to add some.

MOre important than pulling a few degrees of timing on such a small shot is to make sure the fuel is adequate for the amount of nitrous you're running. Most of the horror stories you hear about N2o are from people (or people's friends) who completely failed to "test and TUNE" and just slapped it together, ofter adding a bigger laughing gas jet and no added fuel, or they don't have proper pressure to the fuel solenoid (especially older carb cars where the fuel pressure was so damn low to start with you almost needed a nitrous fuel pump for the system it's self)

You will be fine with that timing :thumb: no go get silly with the gas... you'll be hooked
