Hi im not sure about this site i take it its to do with Japanese cars? well sorry i dont own one but reading various posts i get the impression a lot of you guys know what your talking about and thats what i need.

I have a New Mini Cooper S and the warranty is about to run out so its time for some tweaks. I was thinking about maybe going with Nitrous which i have absolutly no experience of using before. I have done a lot of reading about various types of system and my proffession is as an automotive engineer so i reckon i can figure most of it out but i have a few questions which i would be most gratefull if anyone could help me with. I guess im looking at around a 50 shot max but i reckon to start at around 25 and work up. The engine is completely stock at moment 1.6Litre 4 cyl supercharged. I understand the S has strengthened bottom end and they do factory conversion to 220 BHP with warranty so im assuming i can safely run to this without killing the gearbox or upping the cyl pressure too much. What do you think? would there be any modifications i should do to engine before running N2O to make it safer ( i really dont want to kill the engine). Do you really need Purge valves etc? im planning on using the gas for trackdays and the odd hack on empty country roads so no drag racing Is the purge just for show or is it essential equipment?

I figure on getting some kinda progressive controller as i want the thing to be useable rather than just a straight line beast. and have found suppliers in uk that can offer them but they dont seem to great to me and they cost a lot £350 about $700 i guess! can i get some kinda control unit which will allow me to have gas fully auto. As in wont come in in 1st gear and will delay shot into other gears and allow progressive build up of shot through rev range? maybe different amounts of gas in different gears/engine speed points?

I am aware of the safety systems available such as fuel pressure cut offs etc but have been told by the uk's most heard of supplier that measuring exhaust gas oxygen is a waste of time due to differences in cyl's being hidden etc They say the best bet is to examine the spark plugs after running as this gives better guide as to everything is ok Agree?

Also say i fit it all and set it up perfectly will it stay like that or does it need constant adjustment to keep it in tune?

How do you/did you go about setting up your system? are we talking about rolling road sessions here or can i do it on the go?

I really REALLY dont want to blow my engine i am willing to use as many safety features as poss in order to preserve my engine. In your honest opinion what is neccessary in order to protect my baby in terms of safety cut outs etc and what HONESTLY are the chances of me killing my car?

Has anyone on here ever gone wrong/too far and blown an engine? if so what exactly happens (melting/fractures) how recoverable. i understand all engine deaths are different but is there a theme? somthing i can look for signs of?

Lastly how long is a bottle likely to last if say its progressively controlled but used during kinda fast trackday or road driving? Most of the kits here supply with 5lb bottles or upgrade to 11lb and so far i reckon here in good old blighty it will cost me approx £1000 to fit this to my motor and do a really proper job. Just out of interest how does that compare with the prices over there?

I understand i probably dont belong here but any advice would be great. Who knows maybe i will be able to help you guiys out one day.

I'd be glad to give advice, but as this is a Mitsubishi-based club, I think your question is better suited to a Mini Cooper Club site

I realise this is not a forum for my car but unfortunatly your average mini owner doesnt really do laughing gas and so the forums have about two people in there who have bought off the shelf mini specific kits which i dont feel are safe enough for my motor. I am saking you guys because you use the gas and hopefully know more than i about it. if it helps then imagine im putting this gas into my 1.6 supercharged 4 cyl Mitsubishi.

DSMs are American-built Domestics from Normal, Illinois. Unlike a Kraut-stolen, built-in-America retro-replicar, the original of which was good enough to get its designer frigging knighted.

Bloody tourists.

1. Do you see anything to do with Coopers here?
2. I would watch the insults, as they will get you banned...oh wait, you don't need to be here in the first place.
3. You made it on a computer, to the internet, found THIS site, but can't find a Cooper site? For shame. :toobad:
