My buddy and I installed my water injection kit. We followed the directions perfectly, but it won't turn on. Is it safe to test the pump by just hooking up to a 12v battery? Could it be a bad relay or solonoid? If so is there any way to check for those? We tried connecting the two terminals on both the solonoid and the boost pressure switch just to activate it without having to drive it and hit the required boost levels, and nothing happened. We also tried driving it and again nothing happened. Checked and rechecked wiring. Im stumped, any help would be great.

What kind of kit did you get and how is it supposed to "start?"

Many things could be wrong, I would suggest getting a cheap voltmeter and test all the connections for continuity and also test the parts individually. Yes, most 12v pumps can be connected directly to a battery to make sure they work, any solenoids should also be tested as well as whatever switch turns the system on. The pump will obviously run if you give it power, and the solenoids should click open and you should be able to audibly hear them open. Instructions to test a typical pressure switch are here (scroll down to "Setting the pressure switch.") Once you have made sure the system will turn on by testing the switch and the components individually, the only thing left is to make sure it is wired together correctly!

Thanks for the info. Great link too, it was very informative. The kit I bought was from aquastealth.com. Great kit maybe just some bad components.

We have a wealth of expereinced folks and archived information here - http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/DSM_water_injection

I would usually work my way back from the pump for testing:
-test pump with direct power
-pump pump via relay (if this is what powers it.. on my WI system it is powered directly by the pressure switch) by giving power to the relay as though the pressure switch were on

Hopefully that makes sense..
