NGK BPR7ES discontinued [False Alarm]

So I went to 3 different part stores today to get some NGK BPR7ES spark plugs and to my surprise no one has any and they all told me that they were discontinued now. Has any one else ran into this problem? I ordered some, but I was wondering why they would just get rid of them?

I work at Advance, and we carry them. I'll check into this. I doubt it, though. Maybe call a vendor; like ExtremePsi.

I told them 2023. They still had the plugs in the system they just were not going to get anymore. I got enough plugs to last me a while. When I went to Pep-Boys they had none in store but had 20 in some warehouse, and they were only $1.00 each on close out, so i bought all of them. $20 for 20 plugs! cant beat that.

I can confirm this i noticed it about a week ago. NGK is discontinuing BPR7ES or 2023 as many stores part number it. However, BR7es are still available.

I work at a NAPA, and when I cross the BPR7ES number to NGK stocking numbers I get both the 2023 and a 5534, which are apparently both BPR7ES. Now I don't have any of the 5534 here in stock but give that a try and let me know if they come out to be the same plug.

I actually just called another part store to verify this and the 2023 number has now been replaced by the 5534 number. The stocking number has changed, but I had them grab the plug and verify that it is infact a BPR7ES.

So in summary, the plug has not been discontinued, just had a change in its stocking number.

The BR7ES (5122) is the same plug, it just doesn't have the projected insulator.

You can also try dropping the "R" in the part number....a non-resistor equivalent would be a BP7ES (1034).




I just checked my warehouse for the BPR7ES (2023) plugs- we have (30) in stock locally, and some other close warehouses have (40), (50), and (60) of them. We also have plenty of 5534's, but I cannot confirm they're the same plug just yet until I hold one in my hand.

I had another store confirm this, but I agree I would feel much more at ease if I personally had one in my hand to verify.

I work at an Advance Autoparts DC, I have seen large numbers of 2023's coming back the last month or so and getting tossed or returned to NGK. I was hoping they weren't getting discontinued but it looks like they might be from this. Hopefully that other number is really the same.

I saw this thread this morning and had the guy at Advance cross-check the number. I do believe it is just changing numbers. FWIW, they were $1.79 each.

They're the same plug. The last time I picked up some plugs I bought them from O'Reilly's. I got two sets at the time. They only had 3 of the 2023's in stock and handed me the 5534's for the rest. The 2023 number in their system superceeds to the 5534 number.

IIRC 5534's been around forever too. I remember buying both at Napa 3 years ago when I worked there. And if I'm not mistaken, one has the screw on cap, and the other had the fixed cap.

You may be right, its been 3 years since I bought a set of plugs for a dsm.

I like the ones with loose caps just because they come off easy for a COP set-up

I just picked up a set of ngk 6747 to see what they are all about.

Yea they both have a screw on cap which makes them identical plugs to each other.

5534 is the new 2023.
