hey i just bought a 99 gst and was wondering what the stock boost on these cars is cause on my gauge it tells me im only running like 5 psi.

Either the gauge is incorrect or you have a boost leak. I guess you wouldn't be able to tell if teh car is sluggish if you just got it not knowing what a stock gst feels like.

Actual Stock Boost Level is 14.5 PSI on our 2g's but varies due to wear/age of the car. Stock Boost Level is 12 PSI on a 1g. Check out Car information, new car prices, used car values, used car reviews, new car reviews - MSN Autos and look under 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse and It will give you all the specs from the factory, including gas mileage, stock power levels and GVW (gross vehicle weight). Pretty good website if you ask me!

The boost level is also assuming you have a manual transmission. Stock 1g autos have the baby 13g turbo so i'm assuming its less that 12 psi. By the way, i wasnt trying to advertise, i just put in the website and all that extra stuff came along with it....... meaning i didnt type that. But anyways, it should be 14.5 PSI

Here is a direct quote from MSN Autos, go under 1996 Eclipse and look at the pictures and here is what you will find for the commentary:

"Turbo Power"
Both the Eclipse GS-T and GSX are driven by the same engine, and the GSX applies that power through all four wheels. The engine is a 2.0-liter DOHC turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 210 horsepower. Torque is rated at 214 lb-ft at 3000 rpm, with a maximum turbo boost of 14.5 psi.

Could he have a mbc also and just have it turned way down? Could be something that obvious right? Because if he's seein 5lbs. of boost he obviously has an aftermarket gauge. Just throwin the idea out there.

You can't turn the boost down to 5 psi. The stock wastegate is higher than 5 psi.

There are a million things it could be guys, first obviously i would do a boost leak test. Check the stock BOV which is a known factor for boost leaks on these cars. Also while you have the intake pipe off, check if there is any shaft play in the turbo.

Stock boost as stated above is 10-12 depending on the time of year. In the winter and fall you are going to see higher boost just because of intake temps. It is not 14.5psi. The stock BCS will not allow it to go that far.

The BCS restricts it from going over 14.5psi, as the WGA restricts it from going over 14psi. If you don't believe me, drive down to your local Mitsubishi dealership and ask.

haha I don't have to. I go there everyday. If you remove the restrictor you will run 14psi but STOCK is 10-12. Look at the 24 page thread above. Everyone will say the same for a completely stock car, adding an intake, come IC piping and/or removing the BCS restrictor will cause it to run around 14-15.

No 1g's stock boost level is 10 PSI. 14b's and 16g's stock wg run at 10 PSI.
