i have a 1990 laser rs turbo, and i had replaced the head gasket but when i went back to put the t belt back on i guess i missed some steps that i was supposed to take. needless to say, i got it back together and about 30 min. into my journey my belt skipped a tooth. i think my motor is messed up beyond repair. that is my question for you dsm gooroos, should i get a new motor or just try to get a new block and a head from someone or junkyard.or by the grace of god, can i get mine fixed? n e help would greatly be appreiciated.

yes, i have the head off. the block is still attached to the tranny. i did a check on the valves and found at least two bent valves. one was bent so bad that the sun was out that day and i could see the sunlight through the gap. i checked the piston rings with a light weight oil to see if it would leak through the pistons over night. my result was that it leaked through three of the four cylinders and the fourth one was lower then it was when i put the oil in it. thats where im stuck at. i dont want to spend n e money until i m sure im going in the right direction. thanx for your time

VERY basically - if your pistons don't have cracks and or holes in them & the cylinder walls aren't scored you may be just looking at an Overhaul of the Head - take it to a reputable machine shop.

While the Head is in the shop - Clean up & study your Manual & some good threads on the boards like these & MANY OTHERS... You've GOT to be careful with these things - they are MERCILESS.

I'm unfamiliar with the validity of your standing Oil test, seems to me that result would be Normal - but GTM will be along to analyze that result for you - If not PM him - He knows every test like that on Planet Earth - go with what he says on that.

Good Luck!

when i put on my new timing belt last month i noticed that the 2 notches on the cams where one tooth off of alignment. my neighbor told me that it could of bent a valve. it still runs fine but it burns oil like crazy. i go through a quart a week and i dont know if it is because of the head or the old turbo on the car. it dont leak it al all either. it just burns it out the exhaust

thanx for all your help guys. i think im going to take the head to the machine shop and see what he says. im really thinking about going ahead and getting another motor regardless just in case shit happen. i think i can find one in a junk yard for about 5oo dollars. if you know where i can get a motor or even a head pretty cheap. please let me know.
