I was looking to buy an intake for my 95 talon esi, and i wanter to know what is the difference in performance between the AEM ram air intake (and comments if anyone uses it) and the AEM cold air intake (and comments if anyone uses it). I noticed the ram air intake is less expensive, which is why i considered this option. . .in advance, thank you so much for the information.

The difference between them is about 3HP. The "ram air" is just a standard short ram intake, the Cold air is the type that sits in your fender well. I used to use a cold air, but it got wet every time I drove through a puddle, or when it rained, so I took the cold air extension off, and just run the short ram. Just make sure that if you get the short ram intake that you take the whole factory air box, and "snorkle" out. Hope this helps! :D

Good question t-dogg10, I also want to to know more info on CAI vs. Short Ram, I was thinking about getting a CAI but I am affraid of getting Hydro lock. I know for sure that I am going with Ractive though.

thanks

If you live in an area were ther not a lot of rain. Plus your not driving through deep water.

Buy the CAI if you budget permits. With an NA or turbo it helps alot.

I've tried both on the Honda and the CAI is better.

The CAI is much better as far as sound and performance. I did have the AEM CAI before I went turbo and I loved it. I think that it is the best intake u can get for the N/A Eclipse.

One note of caution, I drove throught rain and even heavy rain without any problems. I did hydrolock my engine by sucking water throught the intake when I was visiting my ex girl in Fla. It was a flash flood from nowhere. My engine was fine, but I drove it all the way back to Va with the filter on the upper half of the intake much like the Short Ram. The lack of power was very noticable as well as the sound. SO, I still highly recommmend the CAI as long as you get the bypass filter which pretty much eliminates water getting sucked into the engine.

Go for the CAI.

well, i live near chicago. ..we got a bit of rain lately (my basement flooded twice already) and we get big snows in the winter. . .so, should i go with the short ram then?

Well just don't drive through flash floods and you will be fine. Bypass filters are a waste of money. Any case of a car sucking water into its engine is usually the fault of the driver. i.e. Driving through deep water.

that's true.
If your like me and don't drive your car in the rain it's no big deal. LOL!

Just joking.

i wanted to get a air intake to for my 90' plymouth laser and when i unplug the air sensor the car won't run. and the air sensor is on the the air box. what do i do??
