Buying TSI Awd, need some quick help

Ok, i am about to purcahse a 96' TSI AWD from a buddy of mine. Currenty the car has an aftermarket exhause, BOV, and boost and A/F gauges. It has 56,000 miles and He bought it for $5, im buying it for $8 is this a striaght price? I'm new to the DSM engines but steadily have researched only to find that their is a big list of problems (crankwalk etc...)

The car is running regulary 13 psi so I know their is no turbo problems....But i want to take it in and get the compression checked and the crank to make sure the car is not a lemon. I called a local place that specializes in Forcued Induction and he wanted to charge me $200.00 for this kind of check up. Is there anything I can do myself to check this and what would be reasonable price to have this stuff checked, thanks for your help

Well IMO, a boost/AF gauge, exhasut and BOV arent worth 3,000$, but thats just me I guess.

If you want a comp check, buy a gauge for 10$ and do it yourself (www.vfaq.com). For quick crankwalk checks (www.vfaq.com) you dont have to be to accurate.

Make sure compression is good, no vital CW signs, brakes, a/c, tranny shifts perfect as any signs of weakness can either be bandaided buy good fluid or it will likely start to get worse from there, check turbo shaft play, rust and when you check the compression inspect the plugs.

After all of this make him drop the prive to 7k cause even though the car may be worth 8, he bought it for 5 and you got him on that.

check blue book and the condition but 56k miles for a 96 is pretty damn good!
