420a shifting problems

i recently dropped my tranny and put in a new clutch and throw-out bearing and new gear oil and everything went smoothly but now when im driving it i cant reverse and 2nd gear doesnt go into gear all the time

im thinking it may be the shifting cables but im not sure

any suggestions?

UPDATE: I DONT HAVE GEARS 2ND 4RD AND REVERSE

Watch the shifter cables under the hood while someone shifts. Make sure the casings are not moving and the connections to the tranny shift levers are moving all the way (move levers by hand after each shift to see if they are going all the way).

i will do that and i just got back from the store and i took the car out and i dont have 2nd 4th and reverse so just the bottom gears on the stick

So the gear shift selector cable (one closest to engine on tranny) is loose or out of position.

ok thanks yea i figured it was something like that bc when i dropped the tranny that one didnt have the clip to hold it in place
