Balancing crankshaft? Important?

I'm about half way done with my 7-bolt build and I was wanting to balance the crank at a machine shop. Is this important to do? Can I get away with just polishing? Thoughts? (Engine mods include; 272 cams, Balance shaft removal kit, reground valves manly springs, stock pistons and rods ARP bolts all around)

Thanks again.

If you're going to have balancing done you might as well get your whole rotating assembly balanced. No point in having your crank balanced on its own when the differences in the pistons/rods are going to throw it back off balance.

Is it a stock crank, or an aftermartket one, does it need to be cut at all?

the mods dont really matter in this situation. Its your rotating assembly, valves and springs dont have a bearing on how assembly will perform.

I know people do budget builds but peace of mind is peace of mind. Personally, I would have the whole assembly balanced, cranbk rods pistons flywheel

You don't balance a 4 cylinder crank the same way you balance a v6 or a v8.

Tell the machine shop that all you want to do is to make sure that all the counterweights weigh the same.

Its a stock crank, and yes the shop already told me to bring in all the rotating parts so they could balance accordingly

With a 4 cyl the crank the counterweights are 180* away from each other so there's not much to balancing them. Take your rods, pistons, crank, and flywheel to all be a part of it being balanced. It will make everything tons smoother since you have the BSE kit

The fly wheel should have been neutral balanced when the rotating assembly was balanced.

So all you should have to do is take the flywheel and pressure plate in, and have them checked and brought to a true neutral balance.

IMO dont be cheap when its the core of the engine and hard to go back. Everyone has regrets, dont chance the possibilty of it.

That being said, my bottom end is all forged, stroker, and bs delete. I had my crank checked for straight, journals measured and polished, and balanced. I then balanced everything else myself, minus the flywheel/pp since those have to be spun.

Ill tell you what, theres no vibration whatsoever anywhere and glad I took all the extra little steps I did. But then again I wasnt stock rebuild and had some money into the project.

Good luck
