need help identifying ecu equipment
i just bought a '91 talon tsi awd and it came with some parts and so forth. I cannot get ahold of the man who origionally built the car (guy i got it from bought it from him 2yrs. ago). I have a box with papers for installing dsm link it looks like the origional box for it but dsm link is in the car. The box does have a small black piece with pins on both sides and an orange wire with one bolt. It says 29mps 550cc on it in his hand writing but im not sure what it is for. Can anyone help im VERY new to this forum.

Welcome to the forum. Throw some pics up if you can and as you figure stuff out update your mods list.
The chip in the box could be a flashed chip that was in before link was installed. To verify link is installed, just download the software onto a laptop and see if you can connect: ECMTuning, Inc.. You will want to transfer your name to owner the chip if you plan to use the ECMLink forum.

You need to host the picture online. Sign up for a free photobucket account and load it on there. From there copy the img code and post it here.

Like he said for hosting pics. Sounds like a flashed EPROM chip to me. If you want to know if link is in there just pop out the ecu and open the cover. You will see a chip if it's there if its black it should say v2 or 2.5 and if it's red that's v3.

this is on the chip

this was on the outside of the box
This was the box and chip. I know that dsmlink v2.5 is in the car and i have the emctuning disk for my laptop. I have yet to use it though putting a new turbo in the car this weekend first. Any help though with this chips identity and why he wrote that on it would be nice. The injectors in the car were 550cc and i just took them out because the stock turbo was back in it and they were running lean and idle and rich at boost. I think that is where the 550cc on the chip is from though, I dont know about the 26mps?

It is 2g maf, not 25mps. If the car has dsmlink than you can tune it for what ever injectors that you are running. If you put stock injectors in and it is tuned for bigger injectors than it will run lean. Did you get a cable with the car to tune it?

Yes he has a cable running to the rear seats to plug it in. Its connected to the diagnostics and the rear has a mounting bar for a laptop. Thanks for clearing up what it said that make loads more since. Im not new to cars but to all the tuning and most of the aftermarket world i am. I was told that with 550cc injectors in it i couldnt tune them down to stock level. The guy who built the motor had a large turbo (not sure how large) in it and ran a large amount of boost. He is a professional car builder and the motor was built for it. The turbo blew though right before he sold it and so he put the stock back in it. He needed to sell one of his cars and this is the one he chose. Im pretty sure it was still tuned for the larger turbo though. The 14b that was in it when i got it about a month ago was peaking at 25psi but stopped pushing at about 5500rpms. Now it blew and i got a stock 16g to put in it just waiting on oil and water feeds that i bought to come in the mail to put it in. Im a little worried about touching to dsmlink still because i dont want to break the car. What would i use the 2g maf for that the one in it now cant do? The cars a '91.

The 2g maf is more accurate, more stable and will flow more air. As for tuning the 550's to run like stock, that is the job of dsmlink. You can put 1000cc+ injectors in there with a stock turbo and tune it and the car will run like it is stock. The guy couldn't of been too professional to be running 550's with a big turbo like you said is on there. 550's aren't even big enough to max out the 16g.

Those are the injectors he put in when the larger turbo blew. He had these purple ones that say zex and have a nitrous hook up on them. Is that sensor just a unplug and plug new one in? And any help you can offer for tuning the injectors? Or even better whats the max boost a tdo5h 16g will run safely?
